No. It was done at the doctors office a couple weeks later.

Not sure why anyone wouldn't. Is there a specific reason why? I just followed what the hospital suggested

I was on the fence but did the recommended at the hospital. We staggered the rest due to reactions.

I personally didn't feel it was necessary to vaccinate a one day old baby for something...certainly not something that they likely would never contract as a baby (unless of course a family member is infected).

They both had it at their 1st ped's visit in the office a few days after coming home.

Agreed. I declined too. It's a sexually transmitted disease. Not like something they're going to catch.

I specifically asked my ped why they're vaxxing 1 day old babies for that and please don't quote me, but she said something like it was a social experiment to see if low income moms would continue to get the 2 extra vaccines if the series started in the hospital. And we'll, it didn't work and stayed standard protocol.

She was very comfortable w me not giving.

It is SO important to get that vaccination. SO much so they give it at birth in the hospital.

It takes only one nurse who is infected. One small issue for your child to be exposed.

Speak with your doctor and make the decision.

My pediatrician recommended that we wait to give it to him at her office. We followed her advice.

It's (fortunately) not that easy to be exposed this young if the mother is uninfected.
WHO information Hep B is the shot that's given first because it's the least likely to cause a reaction. (I recently had to take a Bloodborne Pathogen webinar for work and that came up in the presentation).

When given a choice at the hospital I declined , I was told that it would make no difference just doing it with my pediatrician and that they push it more for people who are at risk for not getting proper follow up care once leaving the hospital.

we didn't do it at the hospital because we decided it made more sense to do it at the first pedi appt. The nurse at winthrop told me that if we wait, every vaccination in on the pedi's records at his office to refer back to if needed

First child yes. Second child no. I asked our pediatrician before second child was born and they said they prefer to do it in the office.

Re: Poll - Was your baby vaccinated at birth in the hospital for Hepatitis B? (pg mom debating)

I answered yes, but now that I think about it, it was done at the one week, first ped visit at 7 days. I did get the whooping cough one though. That one is incredibly important to receive for both you and your spouse. My vaccine philosophy is that all vaccines should be given, but I space them out within the recommended NIH and WHO time frame. You have three, and sometimes more, months to have certain inoculations. My ped gave one vaccine at a time within the three month time frame. So my kids were always on time, but I spaced the vaccines out. Leb is correct, the reason multiple vaccines are given at once is so poor people don't have to bring their kids to the doctor all the time for shots because they can't afford to get to the doctor. It is also for people in third world countries who don't have access to routine, regular medical care. It is incredibly important to vaccinate on time, you can spread them out over the three months if you are concerned and want to make sure there are no adverse reactions. This way it is much easier to determine what caused an adverse reaction. My kids ped is in agreement as are multiple friends and family who work for the NIH and big pharma where they develop the drugs. It is vital to get the vaccines, but many people are not disciplined enough to come back or can't afford to go back to the doctor so often.

I think a lot of these answers are going to depend on when the child was born. When DS1 was born (and he's now 5) the standard of care was to wait until you saw the ped in the office. It wasn't even offered at the hospital. DS2 was born last year and DS3 this year and I was asked both times if I wanted it done in the hospital which is what my pediatrician recommended.

We chose to have Ped do it rather than hospital.

My daughter didn't get Hep B until she was a few months old and her Dr was fine with it. I also only give one shot at a time. I'd rather bring her in for a shot visit than load her up with 3 or 4 vaccines at a time.
