POLL: How would you have tipped in this situation?

OK how would you have tipped in this situation?

My friend is a Washington Capitals hockey season ticket holder down here in DC. His seats are in the "Acela Club" level - so he basically gets table service at the game that includes an all you can eat buffet, and unlimited soda and coffee.

There are waitresses that go around to the seating area, take away your old plate and bring you a new one, refresh your water, bring you your soft drinks, and even take any bar orders for liquor and bring you those drinks as well.

At the end of the night, the bar tab was $20. How much would you have tipped the waitress keeping in mind - and this is what caused the discussion - that the bill doesn't reflect all the other non-alcoholic drinks she brought you through out the game, the water refills, new plates, etc.

Would you tip based on what the bill for the bar was? Would you take into account all the other service she provided? Would you just give her a flat dollar amount given it was a buffet?

Sorry but this sparked a debate in the office today an would love to get your feedback and thought. Added a poll to make it easier. Thank you!

AND DO YOU THINK THIS WAS TOO MUCH?? My friend ended up giving her a $10 tip on a $20 bar tab.

If she hadn't done anything other than bring the bar drinks, i would probably have given her $5 for the bar tab.
However, if she'd done other work throughout the night, i definitely would have given her something to reflect that.
I probably would have given her closer to a $20 tip (plus bar tab cost) if she'd been to me several times during the night. If just once or twice, plus the bar tab i think $10 was fine.
Doesn't seem like $10 was too much though if that's what you're asking

Re: POLL: How would you have tipped in this situation?

If she did a lot of stuff for me, and I was there a couple of hours, probably $20 to $25 on top of what the bar tab was.

Thanks guys! I didn't think $10 was too much. That's what I would have left as a tip myself.

Some of my other co-corkers thought it wasn't enough.

Probably would have left a minimum of $20.

Re: POLL: How would you have tipped in this situation?

I probably would've given her a $20 tip since it was for the whole night.

Re: POLL: How would you have tipped in this situation?

depends how much I had her running around during the night, but I would have left a minimum of about $20 myself, more if I had been demanding.

I probably would have left her $20. You pretty much didnt have to move or go anywere during the game. That alone was worth the $20.

Re: POLL: How would you have tipped in this situation?

im pleasantly surprised by all the $20 tip responses.

i appreciate big tippers. a lot of people who work primarily off tips don't make much of a base pay to begin with. i used to work in a diner and seeing what goes on there.... i just can't help but not make sure i always give a good tip (provided the service wasn't crap)

Re: POLL: How would you have tipped in this situation?

How long was the game?
How many times did she came back and forth to serve/clean for you?

If she did it for 3 hours and served you more than a couple of time then $10 was NOT enough.

In NY at the Garden I would say $10 is not enough. - in DC at a game it seems reasonable.

At least $20, more if they were really attentive.

If it was only $10 for whole group, than that definitely isn't enough. But, if everyone chipped in too and you contributed $10, I think that is fine.
