Not voting only b/c I won't be around during polling time. Otherwise, I would vote yes.

Same polling place as in November. I *think* the hours are 7 am-9 pm.

I am voting YES since I do not want the Islanders to move and the Colliseum to shut down.

I don't like the tax increase, but if the Colliseum were to close, who knows what could come in its place that could be worse!

Voting no

I am still researching, but I am leaning toward no. I resent taxpayer money going to a private company like that.

Re: Poll- If you live in Nassau, are you planning to vote tomorrow...

I have such mixed feelings as to which way to vote. From what I'm understanding our taxes will be going up whether or not this passes. If it passes they will go up to pay for it (which I don't think we should have to pay for) and if it doesn't pass, the taxes will go up because of all the revenue that it brings will be gone, so it seems like a catch-22. I will probably vote yes, but my husband is SO against this, I just dont know.

A yes vote might mean that my husband and hundreds of his brothers might actually be put back to work. It would be a boon for the labor unions and their families - not to mention the hundreds of other jobs that will be created by the revitalization.

They are saying the taxes are going up by roughly $13-$14 a year per household. If this thing doesnt pass and the Islanders move, we will be losing a lot more. There are already entertainers who refuse to play at the coliseum because its that bad. I live right near it and if the coliseum shuts down, I am honestly afraid of what the county will build there. Another failed shopping mall? Casino like originally proposed? I dont want to take that chance which is why I am voting yes.

Dh and I are both voting yes. While I'm not comfortable with how vague a lot of the plan seems to be regarding development of the Hub beyond the new coliseum and ballpark, the construction and then on-going jobs and tax revenues seem worth it. Much like I usually feel in political elections, it seems to be the lesser of 2 evils.

It does totally annoy me that this special election is costing $2million, which if it passes Wang is paying for, but if it fails the taxpayers will have to pay for. Why couldn't it have been put off until the September primaries?

Re: Poll- If you live in Nassau, are you planning to vote tomorrow...

The Islanders WILL leave if they do not get an new arena, and will take with them not only the jobs and tax revenue from the team, but also from the surrounding businesses that the team supports...bars, restaurants, shops, etc. This project will bring not only revenue and jobs from the Islanders, but everything else that goes along with it....concessions, parking, hotel guests, restaurants, etc. It will be a destination, a place where people will come and spend money.

Yes, it is hard to stomach paying for a private sports arean out of taxpayers money. I look at it as a vote for the revitalization of Nassau county, and jobs for Long Island. What will happen to that area if the Islanders leave? Does anyone really think anything will be built there in the future? It will be become an eyesore, the area will be blighted, and property values go down.

See I don't really think other things in the area will close..a lot of the bars are college bars for hofsyra and nassau and there's still eab, so a lot of employees use the restaurants in the area..

I think this "vote" is a waste of money and just lip service to the public to make them think they have some say in whether the stadiums gets built or not.

This is wonderful!. I live in Queens so I cannot vote but hearing that Nassau County is bankrupt and all the revenue this would bring to the area, it makes sense to me.

Just as a little FYI, and I don't know the complete story, but this vote is costing the county $2 mil. There were a bunch of people just laid off from the County to save $3 mil.

So whether or not I agree with the proposition, I really resent Mangano for not waiting until November to hold this vote - which isn't even binding.

although it does suck that it's costing $2mil, it's happening today and there's nothing that can be done about it now. Wang will be footing that bill if it passes.

Vote yes!

Re: Poll- If you live in Nassau, are you planning to vote tomorrow...

As most of you know, I host both a Sports Talk and a Billy Joel radio show both out of Nassau County. So, I've got a fairly vested interest in all of this.

In the end, I've decided to be a "Yes" vote because I think it will cost me more than $58 a year to shlep the family into the City to see Disney on Ice/The Circus/Aerosmith-Lady Gaga-Katy Perry-Billy Joel-Bruce Springsteen-Bon Jovi, etc.

This is where I think they should have downplayed the Islanders connection. Hockey fans are a cult within a cult. Not everyone is a sports fan, and not all sports fans are hockey fans. They should have played up the concerts, the circus, the home improvement shows, etc. And, we're going to be on the hook for $40 extra a year anyway when the place is shuttered.

Incidentally, my DW, DM and MIL are all "No" votes.

Re: Poll- If you live in Nassau, are you planning to vote tomorrow...

I live in Suffolk and therefore haven't followed this too closely but from what I know and have read, I just don't understand why Nassau County gave Wang such a hard time about developing the land!

It's my understanding that he was intending to foot the bill in the beginning, so WHY ON EARTH would they keep shooting down his plans??

That piece of land is SUCH an eyesore and here someone was going to provide jobs, housing and tourism revenue and yet it was shut down.

What gives? Am I missing something? Chat Icon
