Poll-Is it bad luck to purchase baby related items prior to a BFP?

I couldn't help myself. I try to avoid buying anything, because who knows, things change.

But I was in BRU buying a shower gift when I came across a cheap picture magnet that said "I Love My Daddy"-a little trinket, and I thought that it would be so cool to tell DH when we get a BFP by taking a picture of the test and putting the pic in the magnet.

Now I am worried that this is bad luck-and I am not superstitious, but my mother is, and I keep hearing her in my head telling me that I am going to jinx myself.

So, what is everyone's opinion on buying baby goods prior to a BFP? Bad luck, or is superstition silly?

i fully believe it's superstition - but everyone clings to those things differently....

we had a TON of stuff that we bought on clearance a long time ago. did i have it out and in my face? NOPE - but it was in the basement in portable storage...

That's just the way i see it. You'll get a TON of opinions on this - everyone sees it differently...

I just see it as - we have the money now - let's get things while we can (even before the BFP)...because once the baby is here - spare money won't be all that readily available i'm sure...

I can tell you this: I haven't bought a thing, even tho I have thought about it, and it hasn't helped me one bit

There is always the flip side!

I think it is fine to purchase things.

I bought things before I was PG with DS and before I was PG with DD.

I can't pass up a good deal and if god forbid I couldn't use it, someone else could that I know.

I haven't bought anything.

Mostly because I figure you dont know what month you will give birth and what season/sizes you will need. So your bargains may be useless.

I would feel weird buying clothes for the baby that I dont have. But that is just me.

Yes, I believe it's bad luck. But some people believe it's bad luck if you buy anything before 12 weeks PG. That I don't believe.

I did buy some maternity pants a few days after my last BFP because I liked them and knew I would need them soon. But I returned them after my recent m/c.

Everyone is different, you have to go by what you feel in your heart.

For me, I will not buy anything until I am sure I am having a baby. After losing 3 pregnancies and now having to move onto IVF, I think if it didn't happen fo rme, it would be too painful to have to deal with later.

I bought two cute bibs for my DH before we got our BFP and gave it to him when we got our BFP, but unfortunately it ended in m/c. I still have the bibs and dont know what to do with them....

I would wait till I get a BFP next time.

I have purchased things that were too good (in my opinion) to pass up. They are packed in a rubbermaid container and stored in the basement out of sight.

If I can't use them then I will be super generous to my friends when they are expecting.

I don't think it's bad luck, but I think it would make me a lil nutty to see tons of baby things in a room before I was actually pregnant. ESP if it took awhile to get a BFP.

I'm not superstitious about those kinds of things and I don't think it's bad luck... but I still wouldn't buy something for my future child before I was actually pregnant.

I just don't like the idea of doing that.. it's not for me. And I am glad I don't have any reminders hanging around for these past 16 months - IMO it would only make it harder!

I have to agree. I don't think it's bad luck, but it wouldn't sit right with me either. I would love to announce my pregnancy by Ds wearing and "I'm going to be a big brother" tee shirt, but I refuse to buy one until I have a BFP.

Just this weekend I was at BRU buying a shower present. There was the most adorable outfit...I wanted to buy it and save it for when I have a baby. But I just couldn't do it. Everyone's differnt I guess. I'd personally wait.

i feel for ME.. its bad luck.. but everyone is different..

my parents bought me some cute onesies when i was PG.. a week or 2 later i miscarried..
so i dont want anything baby related in my house until i give birth!!

For me , I would not buy anything untill my 2nd to 3rd tri-mester, but I think its a personal decision each future mommy makes on their own.

Everyone is different, but I personally wouldn't feel comfortable buying baby related items before getting pregnant. I'm almost 37 weeks pregnant and other than a few things like the bedding, I haven't really bought many baby related items. It all depends on your comfort level.

I don't think it's bad luck to buy something for how your going to tell DH, I did that. I bought a personalized onsie because I had to order it and wanted to have it for when I find out. If i never use, I never use it, but I don't think it's hurting my chances because I bought it.

But as far as clothes, toys, other items for the baby- I wouldn't buy those. But that's just me.

I have not and cannot bring myself to buy anything baby-related until I am PG. I have been dealing with IF and it is just too hard for me to do it. It's not really superstition, it's just too hard for me to have anything like that in my apartment.

I am unbelievably superstitious, so I wouldn't. When I was having my DS, I didn't have anything in my house until he was here and I knew he was fine.
