Re: Poll-Is it bad luck to purchase baby related items prior to a BFP?

I didn't buy anything baby related before getting pregnant. It was hard enough for me to get pregnant, I didn't need the constant reminder that I didn't have a baby or baby on the way that would use the stuff.

I'm now 30 weeks pregnant, and have only bought a couple of things that I have not allowed into the house. I am not having a baby shower, and will not be bringing anything baby related into the house until she is born and comes home. We are not even having the crib delivered until after I am home from the hospital with the baby.

I think the magnet you bought is cute, your saving it for your big surprise.
I dont think it's bad luck.

I haven't bought anything.

Mostly because I figure you dont know what month you will give birth and what season/sizes you will need. So your bargains may be useless.

I would feel weird buying clothes for the baby that I dont have. But that is just me.

Thanks-I saw it and couldn't resist. I see cute stuff and deals all the time and I just can't-I don't want to get my hopes up too high and be upset every time I see the stuff!

I also reasoned we have our two "boys", our cats Tigger and Skittles, so if he ever found it, that is how I justified it in my head!

I have purchased things that were too good (in my opinion) to pass up. They are packed in a rubbermaid container and stored in the basement out of sight.

If I can't use them then I will be super generous to my friends when they are expecting.

I have done the same thing. I do not believe in bad luck. They are not out in the open. God forbid something bad happens I would not have to stare at it or put it away.

I'm very superstitious about that kind of stuff. I won't buy a congrats on being pregnant card until they tell me it's been confirmed by a doctor. I won't buy any baby stuff until I know the pregnancy is viable. (I know a girl who MC at 12 weeks). I also won't send a congrats on the baby being born gift until I hear that mother and baby are fine. (I know someone whos baby was stillborn and someone else I know had a ruptured uterus and the baby died soon after birth). There are times I have wanted to send stuff in advance and my mother always says don't you dare! That's one time that I definitely listen to her.
