Re: Poll: Swine Flu Shot
Undecided. I am going to talk about it with my OB and my Ped at the next visit. I don't feel that exposed to it. I work in my own office all day and don't come into contact with that many people. I do take a bus to/from work. I'm mostly concerned about protecting DD#1 (and 2 when she is here) from it, and that's why I might get it. I am also thinking FH should get it because he comes into contact with more people on a daily basis.

Undecided.
If I were not pregnant, i definitely would not get it. Since they are so adament about how much sicker you can become if you are pregnant, that is the only reason I'm considering it.
I asked my dr about the regular flu shot and she said I can get it whenever I want, but didn't push either way for it. I'm not positive I'll get the regular flu shot since i have only ever had it once.
DH works with the public so he'll get the regular flu shot for sure, not sure about the swine flu shot.

Re: Poll: Swine Flu Shot
I am not getting the swine flu vaccine or the regular vaccine. Honestly, I don't trust either one. I think the swine vaccine came out way to fast and the 3 companies the state contracted to produce the vaccine is immune from lawsuits, should anything happen. Sounds way fishy to me. And call me crazy, but I know too many people who decided to get a flu shot and ended up with a vicious case of the flu. I never got one before and will just do what I usually do. I constantly wash my hands with anit-bacterial soap and carry hand sanitizer with me. I am so mad because DH works in a hospital and they are making him get the shot because of a bill that NYS passed. Now I have to hope he doesn't get the flu or any side effects. But that is a whole other rant about mandated vaccination!

ITA - totally getting it. Have gotten the regular flu shot for 25 years and never had any problems and never have had the flu. Have tons of drs. in my family, including 2 OB/GYNs and they said it is a must. My cousin is also an epidemiologist at Harvard and this is has become her prime focus the last months and told me I have to get it and that many drs. are not educated at all about the swine flu and the vaccine. My OB/GYN, who is a also a researcher/professor, is also strongly recommending I get it. That is all i needed to hear.

I don't know. My OB is pushing HARD for ALL pregnant women, and esp those in healthcare, TO get it. They did say, however, that the biggest push is for those in the 1st tri since it is unclear of how the virus could effect the fetus that early.
That's the catch..We don't really know what effects the shot may or may not have, but one thing is for sure, the deadly cases of swine flu have been mainly in pregnant women. You can take a chance and get the flu, or you can take the shot and the possible risk.
I have no choice in the matter anyway, anyone that works in a hospital is mandated by the state to recieve it with no exceptions for religious/personal beliefs
ETA: As far as I know many OB's are really pushing for pregnant women to recieve the shot as they are the highest risk group.

there is a mercury free H1N1 vaccine - hopefully your OB/GYN knows this! Not that this will have an effect on your decision, but just so you are correctly informed!

Re: Poll: Swine Flu Shot
I am undecided, I will talk to my dr. abou this but as a nurse I will take the regular flu shot even though I have declined it for the last 4 years after a serious case of the flu the 2nd time I got the shot 4 years ago. I will just load up on Vit C before getting the shot this time around.
As for the vaccine, I was totally against it until the CDC recommends it for prenate women in particular...it seems like we have the worst time fighting the virus and most preganate women who contract h1n1 have fatal consequences. But on the other hand, noone knows the effect it may have on the babies although they say it is safe...Think about it...noone has receieved the vaccine and proved that thier baby was safe afterwards, its like we would be the first generation to get the vaccine and then who knows if our babies will be the "h1n1" babies..Maybe I wathc too many sci-fi movies...but I am pretty leary about it...I dont know what to do... because I do work with the public!
