i grew up in south jersey, and my parents still live there in the house they bought when i was 2.... they plan on staying there forever.
they own their own business and plan on retiring after next year, i think... (they are young, only 53)

My parents sold our house in Miller Place in 2004/2005. They rent an apartment in Manhattan b/c the commute was too much for my dad (he's 61) and my mom is a retired teacher.
They also have a house in Montauk.
DH's parents are from Brooklyn, his mother moved to Florida in the 80's where she still lives. His father is deceased, but he and SMIL lived on Staten Island. We actually live on Staten Island to be closer to her and her kids.

My mother is anywhere from 20-25 years older than many of the parents of the ladies here (she is 75). She is still in her original house that my parents bought. She will never leave though she should be living in an assisted living complex. We, as her children, are beyond fighting the fight. She will only leave that house if she is physically unable to walk the steps.

I am so NOT surprised by the results of this poll!!
Not coming from this area, I was always shocked at how many people I met who have NEVER lived in another house/town/city/state.
And how many people wanted to buy their parents houses and live in the exact same town, etc.
I've never seen the same thing in any other area.

Still on LI, still in the first house they bought 1 year before I came along
My Dad wants to move down here (NC) sometime next year...but I don't know if my mom is ready to move yet.

Both our parents live in their original homes, but they still work. I don't know what will happen when they retire. Think my parents will leave LI and DH's parents will move to a seniors apartment on LI.

My parents still live in queens, have both lived in the same area their entire lives...they think there is no where better which drives me crazy.

Mom's still here, with no plans of moving, waiting for me to produce her a grandchild.
Dad and stepmom retired a few years ago and had a gorgeous monster of a house built in Florida, with plenty of room for the grandchild they are also waiting for to visit!!

Dad and stepmom with my three adopted siblings live in Iowa, about 6 miles east of the South Dakota Boarder
My real mother and stepfather with my half sister live in Denton Florida
Most of my family is still in Texas, San Antonio, Houston, Corpus areas.

My mom lives in Coram, she bought her house after I graduated college - moved from an apt in Queens
Dad and step mom live in Massapequa, they bought their house the year I graduated college as well - moved from an apt in Brooklyn....

My parents still live in the "starter" house they bought in 1973! They have no plans on going anywhere soon!
same with my parents.. still in the starter house they bought in 1965. maybe after my sister and i get married in 2008 they will move.

I didn't grow up on Long Island, but my dad lives in the house upstate where we moved in 1992. He gets the house free with his job. My parents divorced in 2000 and my mom moved to a senior complex on LI. She is 62 and retired; my dad is the same age but still working. My mom is always looking at condos and townhouses but loves how easy complex living is. My ILs live in the house where DH grew up and I don't see them leaving.
