POLL: Will you breast feed your baby?

I'm reading up on it and I'm just scared of all it entails and how exhausting it seems. I'm sure once I start doing it, it won't seem as so overwhelming. I hope, at least! One step at a time, right?

Just wondering what everyone's plans are for feeding baby. Chat Icon

Re: POLL: Will you breast feed your baby?

I don't know if I'm even going to try.

I decided I'll decide when the baby comesChat Icon I have the breastpump just in case I decide to. If not, formula will be just fine. I will go back to work at 3 months so either way I will go to formula at 3 months.

People are trying to persuade me and tell me that I have to but I know my baby will benefit most from a stress free mommy. So, I'll decide when I decide. Chat Icon

Re: POLL: Will you breast feed your baby?

I'm having twins -- I'm going to try to do it for at least 3 months if I can just because I figure it would be most beneficial in the beginning especially since they'll probably be born early. But I realize it can be exhausting, so I'm prepared for it to not work out or to not be able to do it as long as I want. I might look into supplementing one bottle of formula a day.

I always hear how there's pressure to breast feed but most moms I know don't breast feed and just formula feed.

Re: POLL: Will you breast feed your baby?

I breastfed my son until he self-weaned (he was 15 months at the time) and I plan to do the same for this baby. It really does sound overwhelming when you read up about it prior to doing it. But if you decide it's what you want to do, there is SO much support out there! You will get tons of support on here, for starters, there are nurses and lactation consultants at the hospital that will be more than happy to help you, there us La Leche League (you can go to meetings, or call a volunteer with a question, or just submit a question on their website that one of their volunteers will respond to), you could hire a lactation consultant once you are home, and I never hesitated to just ask for help or advice from moms who have been through it (friends, family members, etc.). If you really want to do it for your baby and you set your mind on it, you will do it! Chat Icon

I pretty much totally agree with this...I never wanted to prior to getting pregnant, and now that I am I've had a few "maybe I will" thoughts, but I'm still pretty sure I don't want to try...

I guess we'll see...most of my family is very supportive of not BFing, so at least that is good...just one of my SILs insists because she did, but thats it. I say 98% no...

Absolutely!!! BFing was son was the most rewarding thing I have EVER done. I made it to a year with DS and then he self weaned. I was devastated, I wasn't ready to stop! I keep thinking about how I can't wait to BF again when this baby comes! Chat Icon

ETA: I think it's really helpful if you have support when BFing. I joined a free BFing support group through my hospital and it was so amazing! I met some of my best mommy friends there. I can't wait to go back with #2. Definitely seek out the lactation consultant when in the hospital and even coming on here is great support!

Re: POLL: Will you breast feed your baby?

i'm going to try but i've prepared myself for the very real possibility that it won't work. i had a breast reduction 10 years ago, and although my surgeon tried not to disturb the milk ducts, there's no guarantee, and no way to know until i try.

Re: POLL: Will you breast feed your baby?

I EBF my daughter until 26 months - we weaned together. I plan to BF #2 for as long as we both can/want to. It was equally fulfilling and challenging and there were days when I thought I'd lose my mind but in the end it was worth it Chat Icon

Re: POLL: Will you breast feed your baby?

It worked with DD, so I am going to try w/ all 3. From what I have heard/read, I will be doing a LOT of pumping and bottle feeding, but will do my best to EBF. "IF" it doesn't work out, I will add formula, but I don't plan on giving up. Formula for 3 babies must cost $1,000,000!!!!!Chat Icon
