Poo Question - for a worried friend (slight tmi)
a close friend of mine is having trouble with her son...
she just started him on milk 3 weeks ago.
when he poops, it's rocklike, pebbley and has (more than once) been stuck in his poor little butt, half in, half out (so they had to use a thermometer to try and 'get it out')...
the color is horrible, yellow'ish, greenish, not normal...
NO mucous in the poo (though is this the ONLY sure sign of an allergy?).
she's waiting on a call back from the dr....but is really worried...

Re: Poo Question - for a worried friend (slight tmi)
DS has pooped like this before. He is definitely constipated. When was the last time he went before this? If he has never been like this before than I would think it would be from the milk, maybe he just needs to adjust to it a bit. I would see what the ped says. DS gets miralax everyday becuase he is such a bad pooper. I would make sure he has a lot of fruit today and maybe some prune juice to help get things moving again.

Lauren has the same thing right now. We call them her "rabbit poops" We have given her prunes and anything that would help unbind her but nothing helps. The ped said as long as things are "moving along" not to worry...for now

Re: Poo Question - for a worried friend (slight tmi)
My DS has always had issues with constipitation. He was on lactulose as a newborn and now on miralax everyday for the last 1.5 years. What you described definitely sounds like he is constipated. Milk seems to cause it and it doesn't sound like an allergy (which my DD had.)
He may need to be put on miralax or more fiber foods - but I'd leave that decision to the ped
ETA my DD who was milk allergic started getting constipated at 1 year old for some reason. She is 3.5 now and has been on miralax since she was 1. Everytime we try to slowly wean her off she binds right back up and she eats veggies and fruit. I don't know what it is with my kids and pooping!!

i did say miralax to her as an option, but we're waiting for the doc to call back before going that route...or most others...
just wanted to see if others have dealt with this too..

Re: Poo Question - for a worried friend (slight tmi)
It's because the milk doesn't have the same nutrients as formula or BM. This exact thing happened to DS. We had to give him prune juice in his water...just a little bit (.5oz). She can also try some in the milk..just enough to get him going.
We have to do this every so often.
