Potty Training - Mom's of Boys?
At what age did you introduce the idea of potty training... When were they actually trained?
And how do you go about that?
DS is very young still (16 months) but I feel like i need to prepare myself first as I have no idea how to teach a BOY to pee...
Which this is going to be a funny question but do you teach them to stand up from day 1 (and yes I am serious with this question - I have no clue)
For the first time I think it might have been easier to have a girl!
Thanks!

I bought a potty and have left in my bathroom (DS is 15 months) and he sits on it but obviosuly nothing yet. I would get a book to read up on it. I think they said you teach boys to sit first.

Re: Potty Training - Mom's of Boys?
My older son learned to pee standing up from the beginning, he never sat to pee. My younger son looks at me like I am crazy when I try to get him to stand and pee. It's not like he doesn't see my Dh or his older brother do it so I'm not sure why he looks so freaked out all the time.

Re: Potty Training - Mom's of Boys?
we are potty training and DS is sitting on the potty make sure that you have a potty with the wee wee shield we found out the hard way that it goes everywhere otherwise. We started at 15 months and now at 18 months he will pull his diaper off himself and sit and pee, (no poo yet). He hates peeing in his diaper now so it has worked well. We took a whole weekend and dedicated it to staying home and every 10-15 minutes had him on the potty for 5 minutes. Finally after the first day he understood if he peed in the potty a celebration commenced. Good luck

Re: Potty Training - Mom's of Boys?
We aren't too modest at home (well in regards to the barthroom) so ds would see how dh would go. We never had a potty (just a seat that went over ours) and he thought it was funny to pee standing up and he did this from a young age about 20 months. Potty training was kind of easy for us because my ds always loved to be naked, so not having on a diaper really helped him learning quick to use the toilet

Re: Potty Training - Mom's of Boys?
Benjamin started off peeing sitting down but then just gradually moved on to standing. It is important to involve the men in your family in the training!
DH at first though it would not be "appropriate" to have Benji watch him pee but when we were spending a few months in Pocono's my parents stayed with him there for 2 weeks and every time my dad went to the bathroom Benjamin started going with him and tried to pee at the same time It really helped a lot because it turned into a kind of sport, in a way, with aiming and all... Then my DH finally came around...
So get the father and grandfather/s ready!

Re: Potty Training - Mom's of Boys?
We actually just got him a potty tonight. He is 22 months old. He knew exactly what it was, and sat on it, but nothing happened.
Honestly, I expect it to take quite some time, and I dont believe in pressure....so I will just mention it daily , read a book or two on it, use a reward system and am hoping to get him to use it within the next 6 months.
