Potty training moms - Waking up really early to pee - what to do?
About a week and a half ago I went cold turkey one day with the potty and DS has been peeing in the potty ever since. I didn't intend at the time to start night time training but he appears to have done that on his own. The problem is he now wakes up about 2 hours early every day and since he doesn't nap this is a huge issue for us. He wakes up calling to me that he has to go to the potty - he is completely dry and he does go to the potty but, by then, he is up and ready to go. I have tried cutting down his night time drinking (drinking milk used tot be part of his routine at night b/f bed about 30 min) but, that doesn't seem to have made a dent. Any advice?

Re: Potty training moms - Waking up really early to pee - what to do?
My older son did this when he first potty trained. I remember it lasted a few months and then went away. DH and I were just talking about that the other day. He learned to hold it longer. He is probably just scared of accidents. I'd work on eliminating night time milk to help. My son's bedtime at that time was 9ish and we cut out all liquids after dinner (we finish dinner 730/8ish). And I feel your pain...I remember how cranky DS was then....

Re: Potty training moms - Waking up really early to pee - what to do?
Sorry I have no advice, but I do have a question for you! today was day 2 of potty training for my 2.5 y/o, boy...I bascially was making him use the potty after he already peed in his undies....so if you have the time ,can you please explain to me what you went thru when you first trained?! I'm pulling my hair out over here!!!
He keeps peeing in the undies, not telling me, but then he is willing to go again in the potty before I put dry undies on....so he doesn't mind using it.
Did you go thru that at all or did your son just "get it"?
what do u mean cold turkey? what about naps? what about if you had to go out? sorry, so many questions!!

Hi! Not sure I can be of much help since i really didn't do much. We are still having issues here as well since although he does great with pee pee he has yet to go #2 ever in the potty and I have no idea what to do about that.
Before he turned two it appeared he was ready - he always told me when he was going and was waking up dry from bedtime and naps. I let him pick out a potty and he started going in it. Problem was he wanted to go in it ALL the time - he kept saying he had to go just b/c he wanted to sit on the elmo potty. It was basically play time for him. It seemed like he just didn't get it - and it was summer so we were out and about alot so I just gave up on it entirely after a few days. Fast forward a month or two after he turned two and I started to try again. But, at that point he wanted nothing to do with the potty - it seemed like a nuisance to him and every time he said he was peeing I asked if he wanted to go to the potty and he always said no. Well one night when he just hit 2.5 he said yes. Then started the nightly ritual of him peeing in the potty every night. Then I started asking him during the day but, he would always say no b/c it seemed like he just didn't want to stop what he was doing. So I posted about this about wks on here and the girls suggested I get rid of the diapers and just tell him he had to go in the potty. I was afraid to deal with the mess of underwear since I have a newborn as well so I put the pull ups on him - I told him they were big boy underpants and he couldn't pee pee in them that he had to go in the potty. And, I told him that if he went in the potty all day he would get a new train. And, that was it. Every time he had to pee that day he told me - I would make a really big deal of it and sporadically gave him little gifts. That was just 1.5 weeks ago but he has been peeing in the potty all day every day since and even dry at night. #2 is another story.
Unfortunately, he doesn't nap anymore so that isn't an issue. Since I have a newborn and its only been 1.5 wks we haven't been out all that much where it would be an issue. We do go out every day but in short intervals (1-4 hrs) b/c I am EBF DC #2. He still wears the pull ups - I ask him if he has to go b/f we leave and he tells me if he does and if not he almost always has to go as soon as we get back. Im not sure if he is holding it in or if he just doesn't have to pee during this time.
I just bought some disposable potties and potty seat liners from BBB since with the holidays coming we will be out for long periods of time...I'll let you know how it goes...HTH!!!! Good luck!!!

I just trained my son in January and he did that at first with undies. The weird part was if I left him naked - he was trained. Never had accidents - even would go on the little potty himself without telling me!!! It just took time to click and rewards helped some. Since he was just about 2.5 rewards were hard and rationalizing was hard but it eventually clicked. I gave him a candy and a sticker for his chart if he did pee pee with undies on and just a sticker on his chart when he did peepee naked. I'd say over a few days - he got it. Accidents because rare - more just little dribbles in his undies and then he'd go potty to finish. The dirbbles eventually went away in the next week or so.

Re: Potty training moms - Waking up really early to pee - what to do?
Welcome to PT. That's unfortunately what happened to us and it never went back. DD is almost 4 and still wakes at 6 am everyday w/ no nap ever since she PT. She used to sleep til at least 7:30 or even as late as 8:30 but no more! Really stinks!
