Potty training question (TMI)
I am sure the answers will be different for boys and girls but I'll take any answers/advice.
DS is 100% pee trained during the day. He sleeps 11-12 hours at night and still wakes up wet so he still gets a diaper at night. I'm totally fine with this.
However, he has only ever pooped on the potty maybe 3 times. He holds it in until he has his nighttime diaper on and then goes. Once this was at 3am
Two days ago, he was complaining his tummy hurt and he didn't want to sit on the potty to poop, so I offered him a diaper and he pooped in that. Again, I'm fine with that. I know that being poop trained often comes afterwards and I do NOT want him holding it in and becoming constipated. I've heard too many horror stories of kids becoming so afraid to use the potty that they were backed up for a week or more.
So how long after your kids was pee trained were they poop trained as well? Did you do anything special to get them to poop on the potty consistently? I have offered treats and toys and he isn't interested. He seems legitimately afraid that his butt will hurt if he uses the potty to poop.

Re: Potty training question (TMI)
DD was also afraid to poop on the potty and would wait until nighttime. It took her about 5 months to finally stop pooping at night. It will come when he is ready.

Re: Potty training question (TMI)
This was such a hard time in our house. DS too was afraid, would cry if I tried to put him on. After potty training in 1 day. He went ot pooping every 3-4 days. He got so backed up I felt horrible. We had to do 8 weeks of miralax to correct the damage he had done by holding it.
At my peds suggestion, I let him decide where to poop, potty, diaper or pull up. We agreed on the pull up he only had 1 poop accident in his underwear.
This lasted for 1 year! Yes 1 year. I tried everything. Dr considered him potty trained because he would ask for a pull up in order to go.
I have no advice on the subject. We didnt go to chuck e cheese for 1 year because I told him once he did poops on the potty I would take him, I offered him toys he wanted (up to $200 worth ) I think I even ofered to take him to Disney again! There were so many bribes on the table nothing worked. I tried putting him on in small increments when he had to poop. Tried the magic wand someone had suggested (magic wand when sitting on the potty makes poops come out easy) I tried holding him on the potty when he had to go while both of us cried (not a proud moment but I was out of ideas) THen finally he did it and we havent had a pull up since!

Re: Potty training question (TMI)
Poop is definitely more challenging. DS has been pee trained since the end of February but pooping he has had a few accidents. We do stickers at home and at day care if he is telling them he has to go either at daycare (because he wasn't telling them at first) and he gets rewards after a few stickers. Try to figure out what he really likes. Sometimes for DS it is a cookie, ice cream, playing a game on my phone for a little bit try to find what works. I have heard that pooping takes a while. Keep talking to him too. Explain to him that it is ok to poop on the potty and show him how you guys do it also! Good luck!

Re: Potty training question (TMI)
As frustrating as it is, I am soooo glad I'm not alone! Thanks everyone. I'll just keep encouraging/bribing him, but I'll try to keep it low-key.

Re: Potty training question (TMI)
We went through this with my DD and here is what finally worked. She was going in her diaper or pull up as well. One day I took the diaper and laid it across the toilet seat open as if she was going to poop in it. As she started to go, I pulled the diaper away and let her go in the potty. When she saw that it didn't hurt and it was no big deal, we were home free. I may have done this a couple of times before she finally did it on her own. Worth a try.....Good luck!

Re: Potty training question (TMI)
Oh this was a HUGE problem for us too. DS went through a phase where he asked for a pull-up. Then I told him we were out of them and he went on the potty! It was great for a few days and then he started going in his underwear, pretty much everyday. Drove me crazy! He would also hold it for days and gave himself stomach aches. At the advice of my ped, I started giving him Miralax EVERY day and now he poops on the potty with no issues. Before he had to really push to get it out, but now it's very soft and I think that really helped a lot. And we had tried everything else as far as rewards, praise when he goes, etc.. Nothing worked.
