Potty training. Ready? (Sorry if TMI)

DS is 2 years, almost 7 months old. We tried PT before when he was 2-2. He had a good, enthusiastic interest in the potty, but lost interest cause we tried to early, he wasnt developmentally ready, didnt care less if he was wet, dry, or had poop, and he actually got scared of the potty at one point. His interest is good again, although not what it was. However, he's more developmentally ready with his language and motor skills, and has been keeping his diaper dry for longer periods. Ive been scared to really full on try again because if he isnt ready it will be a disaster. He still wont interrupt anything to potty and requests diaper over big boy underpants. Although he gets super excited when he does potty.

Well, yesterday I was getting him ready for bath. I took off his diaper and started running the water. He runs to me and said "mommy I need to go poopy" (which he says for pee pee, poop is yucky mudChat Icon ). He went to his little potty and made a lot. I was impressed. In the hallway though, I noticed theres were very tiny amount of pee on the floor. My thought is that maybe he started having an accident and was able to stop and run to the potty since what was in the potty was far more than what was on the floor. I think maybe having the accident was a reminder.

Then this morning he was fussing a bit in the crib. He told me he had to go potty. His diaper was warm and wet, but he did go in the potty too (just not the morning torent Ive seen before). Maybe he's starting to get it and also not be comfy in a wet diaper?

I guess he's ready, but Im so worried about a set back. He needs to be trained before starting preschool. I think I need some moms who have BTDT to give input and encouragement. Thoughts?

What worked for us is getting rid of diapers completely. No pull-ups, just underwear all day.

DD was 2 yrs 7 months and showed interested, would sit but never went on the potty. She did a few times at daycare but still went in her diaper too.

We had a free weekend and I decided to just go for it. Explained no more diapers, they are for babies, etc and we went to target to pick out underwear. She wore them all weekend and no accidents, she just got it. Not one accident and 2 weeks later was completely night trained too. Sometimes she wouldn't ask to go but she'd do this little dance that I knew she had to so we'd run to the potty. Also used m&m's as a reward for a few weeks.

Sounds like he's ready, good luck!

like camacho said, get rid of the diapers! that's the only way you can get a toddler to train. i would keep him out of diapers for at least one week. do not give in to putting a diaper on him, no matter how frustrated you get.

i've mentioned this in posts before, but in the 1950's 80% of children were trained by the time they were 18 months old. nowadays, parents wait to train until they feel that their kids are ready, when most children really are ready way before we think so. by the time they are 2+, children become stubborn in personality and are more resistant in training, which we take as "not being ready."

i think if you can stick with no diapers, you'll be surprised. good luck!
