Potty Training Suggestions (Boys)
Next week I'm going to start "really" potty training my DS. I was wondering if any of you would be able to give me some helpful tips and what I should expect.
I have been introducing the potty to DS for a month now. He sits on it with no clothes and we either read a book and brush his teeth. He'll sit there for usually 5mins and then he's bored and want to jump off. Yesterday I got him to sit there for about 8mins. He won't go the bathroom but I'm not forcing him to at this point...I just want him to get used to everything.
We have also watched the Elmo Potty Time DVD and he could careless about it. He likes Elmo but he's not his favorite. We talk about pee pee/ poo poo all the time and he'll say pee pee but not referring that he has to go at that moment.
I guess I'm just looking to see what I should expect the first day or two? How long should I sit him on the toilet and how often? Any advice would be grately appreciated.
BTW...we are using the potty seat for a regular toilet not sure if this makes a difference when asking for advice.
TIA! -Tina

no real advice, I haven't started yet, but do you think he is ready to potty train if he hasn't gone at all in the past month on the potty.

Re: Potty Training Suggestions (Boys)
All i have for you is that it's not easy with every kid. I think pull ups are not helpful but at least he could pull them down as opposed to diapers. I think they need to be in undies and let them have accidents. But im unsuccessful so far b/c it's been a couple months and im still really working on it. I've been putting him on the potty whether he asks to go or not. Good luck!

Re: Potty Training Suggestions (Boys)
My son is 2 1/2 and has been in pull-ups for about 3 mos (not my choice/different thread) - and has only recently - last 2-3 weeks been asked to be changed. He now knows when he is going potty. Sometimes he just doens't care and will go in his pull-ups. 2 weekends ago he actually asked me 2 times to go potty - and he did. He did mention in a few other times but hasn't gone or just went in his pull-up.
Last night he did a "code brown" on the potty - we made such a HUGE deal about it he woke up talking about it - so I think/hope that helped.
Good luck and don't get annoyed w/ DS - that won't help anything.

Re: Potty Training Suggestions (Boys)
thank you ladies. i do think he's ready. i'm working during the day so i only put him on the potty before bedtime just so he can get used to sitting on the potty. so i haven't really been "training" him.
i'm really wondering how long i should leave him on the potty when i do start training all day. i took work off a few days and then i have the weekend so i can be home with him.
when i put him on the toilet and it's been 5mins and still nothing do you put the underwear back on and try again in another 30mins or so. i'm not sure how to go about how much time i should be giving him on a potty.

Does he watch you in the bathroom? DS gets so excited when I do pee pees!!! Maybe you go and show him and then let it be his turn.
We also go 1-2-3 PEEEE when its DS's turn.

Re: Potty Training Suggestions (Boys)
Haven't started yet, but I have read to give them a full cup of water and wait 10 minutes then put them on the potty, they will probably go as 10 minutes is a long time to wait as their bladder is still small.
