Pre Term Labor scare...prayers please!
VERY LONG STORY SHORT:
I was in the hospital twice this week being tested for preterm labor. I am having a lot of "real" contractions and cramping. They put me on Procardia after giving me a shot of Terbutaline to slow the contractions. I am not on full bedrest yet, but they want me to rest with feet up as much as possible. I am not dilated yet, but my cervical length is only measuring just over 3, so they want me to get checked once a week to see how it changes. I am really scared and worried. Please pray I dont go into early labor and if anyone else has been through this please share your experience with me!

Re: Pre Term Labor scare...prayers please!
Everything will be Okay
I had pre-term labor at 26 weeks. My cervix was only 1cm long. I was put on Procardia and strict bedrest. Eventually my cervix lengthened to 3.2 (anything over 3 is good). I had steroid shots etc. And well I am still here now at 38 weeks and will be having a scheduled c-section next week (my DD was a section).
Hang in there

Re: Pre Term Labor scare...prayers please!
I've been having pre-term labor since 28 weeks. They gave me the terb shot and steriods for the babys lungs. I'm now 37 weeks. Baby is measuring great! I'm having a c-section on the 31st only cause my baby is breech. I was on strick bedrest and just yesterday my OB said I'm able to get out a little more but don't push it. I did go out yesterday and my contractions started up so I came home and relaxed. I was taking procarida from 28 weeks till 36 weeks. As soon as I stopped it my contractions came back. I've been off the meds for a week today and still no baby my cervix this whole time only stayed a fingertip dialated. I go every week to be check to make sure there is no change and so far so good. My ob thinks if I wasn't having a c-section that she would have to induce because my cervix hasn't changed. She think I would of went past my due date lol I was soo worried to that I would give birth to soon and I'm now 2 weeks away from having this baby!! I'll be 39 weeks when I give birth. I didn't think I would make it to 37 and I did! So don't lose hope. Def stay off your feet and take it easy. I saw a difference from when I was moving around to resting 100%. If you have ANY questions PLEASE FM me I'll be more then happy to help! Your in my prays that your little one stays put!!

Re: Pre Term Labor scare...prayers please!
Thank you for sharing your stories. You are all making me feel much better.
I feel no cramping today, but a little bit of contractions. Yesterday I didn't feel any. I just feel very drained or relaxed...almost like when I used to take a xanax for anxiety. Do you think my blood pressure could be low from the Procardia?

Re: Pre Term Labor scare...prayers please!
I just went through the same exact thing over the weekend and spent a few days in L&D:
My Story
I'm on bedrest from now until I deliver, take Procardia, weekly cervical length checks, FFNs done every 2 weeks, and weekly NSTs. I went through something similar with my last pregnancy, but this time my contractions are a lot more intense.
Did they do a FFN test on you?

Yes and it came back negative. Thank God. But the contractions keep coming...

Procardia was designed to lower blood pressure. It's used off-label by OB's to slow down contractions when terbutaline doesn't work. I had to skip my Procardia once and delay it a few hours another time because my blood pressure dropped too low to take it. (I keep a blood pressure cuff at home and measure it before I take Procardia.)
HTH!

I feel your pain! A few days ago I had 8 contractions in an hour and was about to call and then all of a sudden they went back down to 4 and didn't have to call. It's good to know that the FFN is negative...it buys you 2 weeks at a time!

Yes that is comforting, but I just spoke to Dr and he is making my double my Procardia dosage and if contractions doing stop in 2 hours he is admitting me into the hospital for a few days.

Re: Pre Term Labor scare...prayers please!
I started having preterm contractions at 23 weeks. At 30 weeks I wound up in the hospital. I was there for 3 nights and they sent me home on procardia and bedrest. At 35 weeks the contractions came back, and were big and painful, and wound up back in L&D. Everyone thought for sure the babies were coming then. But I got 2 shots of terb and they upped the frequency of procardia. (from once every 6 hrs to once ever 4 hrs) and the contractions lessened, so I went home after 2 nights. At 37w5d my babies were delivered by scheduled c-section. I started having bad contractions while waiting for the c-section (because I had stopped the procardia the day before), but still was not dilated at all! So I had preterm contractions for more than 14 weeks, but never actually went into preterm labor.
