Preggo Crasher Do I really need

A Video Monitor...I was against it at 1st b/c I feel like I will check on the baby in person anyway, but everyone keeps telling me how great they are...I really like the audio monitor I put on my registry, but now Im 2nd guessing my decision...

Re: Preggo Crasher Do I really need

IMO YES!

Instead of going in constantly I can just see on the screen that he was just changing position or if he is really awake. Simetimes he isnawake but just playing. If i went in and he saw me he would want out.

It is just piece of mind and help me get a good nights sleep (and DS room is right next to our room)

Re: Preggo Crasher Do I really need

I only have an audio monitor and I have never once turned it on...we live in a ranch where all the bedrooms are at one end, and I never could get comfortable sleeping with the white noise sound and honestly, I set up the crib in our nursery so that I can see it from my bed, so there was no need. I think the audio monitor would be fine.

Re: Preggo Crasher Do I really need

Do you need it? No. Is it a great thing to have? Yes! I'd register for it and if you get it, great, and if not you can buy yourself an audio one. I live in a small condo so an audio monitor is not necessary at all, but I love having the video so I can see if she's actually awake or just making noise in her sleep.

Re: Preggo Crasher Do I really need

I was debating this when I was pg as well... I live in a 2 bedroom condo and DD's room is right next to ours... I put it on my registry and my SIL bought it for me... Thank goodness bc now I dont think I can live without it... In the beginning DD was a VERY noisy sleeper, so with the video monitor I can just click on the video to see if she is awake or not... I feel like with just the audio I would be going to check in on her alot.

Re: Preggo Crasher Do I really need

I didn't think I'd love it as much as I do - but I couldn't live without it! I love being able to see how she is sleeping, when she's waking, etc. Definitely gives me peace of mind.

IMO, can't live without it!!

If I did not have it, I would not sleep at night or get anything done during the day while DS naps.

Every little peep I would run upstairs & at least with the video you can see he is ok.

I swore I wouldn't need/want a video monitor. I love my video monitor. It makes everything so much easier. I esp loved it for CIO and as they get older.

Re: Preggo Crasher Do I really need

Someone posted this question a few days ago and this was my response: HTH

If I didn't have a video one, then I wouldn't know what I was missing. So, I would say you don't need one.

However, I do have a video monitor (summer handheld) and I couldn't imagine not having it:

- The biggest benefit I think , is that it allows you to see if the baby is actually sleeping, instead of just laying there awake, quietly. Sometimes I would swear DD was asleep, but she wasn't. This helped me better schedule the day since I knew, more accurately how long she napped. (sometimes she would wake up and lay there quietly for half an hour. I would have thought she was asleep)

- When I started to give her a blanket in the crib, I didn't have to peek in a hundred times, trying to avoid the creek in the hallway so it didn't disturb her

- Also, I would hear her start to stir and sometimes she would get up, but then I would be able to see that she layed back down , which might lead to her falling back asleep. I think if I didn't have the video, I would think she was awake, I heard her , I would just go in and get her

Those were the biggest benefits to me.

Couldn't live without it. DH always says that people who don't get one are missing out on the simple pleasure of seeing their child sleep, which can be amazing and funny sometimes.

YES! i felt same as you. registered for an audio, adament i did not NEED a video. then the day it was time for DD to sleep in her crib and not next to me, i realized how much we needed it. got it that day. makes it easy to see if they are up or crying in sleep, check their position, peace of mind.
i would get it.

I don't have a video monitor because my apartment is small, but I wish I did- and this is why I am on the lookout for one!

Ditto this! His room is right next to ours so we can hear him fine. I just like to know if I need to go in, or if he's just changing position.

ITA. I originally got the Sony audio monitor and it was great for a while. DS started pulling himself up in his crib about a month ago and would get stuck because he didn't know how to get down. I got the video monitor then so I could see if he was stuck or just fussing/winding down.

Re: Preggo Crasher Do I really need

I love mine. I started with an audio monitor, but then ended up waking DD when I would go in to check on her before I went to bed. That only had to happen a couple of times before I got the video monitor - you can see her breathing on it, it was great for sleep training/CIO, and it lets me monitor her sleep really well, which is very useful for scheduling, adjusting nap times, etc. I could never go back to an audio monitor. For a paranoid first-time mom like me, this was perfect and I wish I had it from day one.

Re: Preggo Crasher Do I really need

I definitely think so - I couldn't live without mine!!!

Quick story - two weeks ago, Anthony finally started sleeping through the night in his crib. Prior to that, from 5mos to 10 mos, he slept in my bed. ah! Way too stressful and what a terrible night's sleep that was for me.

ANYWAY, I cold-turkey got him in the crib, and the second night, he cried a different pained cry. I look at the video monitor and he actually got his leg caught in the crib rail. Thankfully I had the video monitor to see that. Otherwise, I'm not sure if I would have let him cry it out more, just thinking that he wanted me to take him out.

Long story short, I LOVE my video monitor!

Re: Preggo Crasher Do I really need

I think so. We use ours a lot and it gives me peace of of mind to be able to see her when she is in her crib. I also have the angelcare monitor which imo is something you can't live without.

Re: Preggo Crasher Do I really need

I LOVE having a video monitor, and can't stand being at my mom's house where she only has the audio. My apartment is small enough that I can hear her without a monitor. The video lets me see what she is doing in her crib, so I can decide if I should go in or not when she is supposed to be sleeping. I use it much more now than when she was a newborn. I think its amazing, especially when you are working on teaching you LO to sleep at night.
