Pregnant Teachers--- Bus trips?
now that spring is coming up we'll be going on most of our field trips for the year. the nurse in my building knows i'm pregnant and recommended avoiding the bus trips where possible (i.e. not going or driving in my own car)
Anyone else doing something similar or am I just being OCD?

Nope.. We are special ed and we take bus trips at least 2 x's a week on a mini bus and every other week on a big one. I'm not concerned. I just sit near the front.

I have never heard that before, I see tons of pregnant women riding on public transport (mostly busses) everyday. Why has she told you to skip them>?

Re: Pregnant Teachers--- Bus trips?
she recommended skipping the school bus because they are so bumpy.... they are much bumpier than say a public bus....

Re: Pregnant Teachers--- Bus trips?
I stopped going on field trips at 6 months because the ride is very bumpy and uncomfortable. But mainly because the walking was getting to be too much.

Re: Pregnant Teachers--- Bus trips?
OMG I have a seriously big trip into the city with my kids on May 29....less than a month before my due date! I've totally thought about this. I would think my school nurse will say it's okay (she always thinks EVERYTHING is okay) for me but some fellow teachers are concerned. I'm really not sure what to do!! I don't know how good it would look for me to be in a separate car on MY trip! And not sure who would go with me...it's just me, the teachers and the aides on this trip, no parents.
About 3 weeks before that I take a bus trip into the city to see Billy Elliot with a district teachers group. I hope I don't regret that bus ride either!

Re: Pregnant Teachers--- Bus trips?
it would depend how far along I am. I have a field trip in may to NJ and I am most likely going to go as long as I am feeling ok.
I know other pg women don't go if they are 6 months or more.

Re: Pregnant Teachers--- Bus trips?
i went on a field trip 2 weeks before my due date. it's no different than driving--i drove over 50 miles round trip every day until my due date.
i think your nurse is being WAY overly cautious unless you have some type of medical problem. bumps don't cause pregnancy problems unless it's something serious.

Re: Pregnant Teachers--- Bus trips?
IMHO that's just being silly - People commute via public transportation until PAST their due date - KWIM? It may not be the most COMFORTABLE trip for you ........You may be to hold your bladder But I don't think it's dangerous at all -
