Preparing chicken and turkey for 8.5 m/o?
For those of you who make your own food, how do you prepare chicken & turkey? Do you puree it or just cook and serve little pieces?? We are about to start poultry, so any suggestions would be appreciated. TIA

Re: Preparing chicken and turkey for 8.5 m/o?
DD started meats earlier and when we did first introduce I would puree it, I would make a soup and puree it with the broth so it wasn't a really weird consistency...At 8.5 months she was eating pieces already, but not sure if I would introduce it into pieces though!!! HTH!!!

I steamed then pureed but DS never took to it. I wound up waiting till he was 11 months and just give him little pieces

i highly recommend buying a whole chicken and roasting it in the oven among some veggies. it yields a lot of servings (at least 2 weeks worth of meat)
or you can even buy the pieces- use both breast and thigh. thigh is higher in oron than breast! anyhow, i roasted it, and then pureed it. chicken is very moist when it is cooked with the bone. i just pulled the meat from the skin and the bone and mixed the dark with the white. i would add a little bit of water to get the right consistency. i also threw in some veggies which helped give it a nice texture and moisture.

I used to roast it, then puree it with any of the following combos:
Chicken and sweet potato Chicken and peeled grapes Chicken and peas Chicken and apples with cinnamon Chicken and a little bit of roasted garlic
She would eat it a variety of ways. For example, if I made lemon chicken for dinner, I'd puree that. She really did just eat whatever I ate. I subscribed to the theory that she shouldn't just eat bland foods, we always added spices and what not. I would just take her portion out before adding anything spicy or any salt. But cinnamon, garlic, lemon, oregano, rosemary, etc. she always ate.

I have been doing the same thing (dd is 8 months) and we started at 6. I roast it with carrots and sweet potatoes and puree it up with some water. I have also made a chicken soup with chicken, carrots and parsnips and some dill for flavoring. puree it up with the stock (no salt)
