Preschool Report Card for 3yo
Ok, so my DS, 3 1/2 yo has his first little parent teacher conference tonight. I just looked at his "report card" online and I don't know if it's bad or not. I have a few questions...
1. The categories or "grades" are S Satisfactory, N Needs Improvement and G Growing. What is best and worst? That is the order that they are listed on the report card. Wouldn't Growing be better than Needs Improvement?
2. He got all Gs one S for running (LOL) and THREE Ns, 2 for listening and one for holding a pencil/crayon appropriately. Should a 3 year old really be able to hold a pencil/crayon correctly? Don't know if it matters but he is a lefty... Also, do 3 year old boys usually have trouble listening and interrupting? We are STRUGGLING with this. He does not listen well and CONSTANTLY interrupts when we are reading or talking to him.
What do I do? Please, help from any BTDT mommies would be greatly appreciated....

I'm not a BTDT but I think that "growing" would be better than "needs improvement." In some ways, wouldn't a 3yo's skills be growing in all areas? I'm suprised they do report cards at that age!

I know, I just worry about his "listening" issues b/c he has a really hard time with that. But don't all 3 yo boys have issues listening? And, seriously, they are supposed to be able to hold a pencil/crayon correctly?

Re: Preschool Report Card for 3yo
T just started holding a crayon correctly at 3 1/2 (most of the time, but not always). He has trouble listening and interupts constantly. I think that is normal. I do think that it is worthwhile to try to reinforce good listening and not to interupt, but normal for them not to be good at it yet. I would "think", but a teacher might be better able to answer, that growing means showing improvement which would be a category to use more for a second report card. For example, last report card he got needs improvement and the next report card he got growing.

Which is kind of what I thought too, but it's weird since this is his first ever report card.
May I ask you, how did you "teach" him to hold his crayon appropriately? I have tried to show him and it just frustrates him to no end. I wonder if him being a lefty is frustrating too or something... I don't know.

I honestly didn't teach him myself. They teach him at daycare/pre-k. I've just noticed that he has now started to hold it correctly at home, where he hasn't up until now.

Does he interrupt you a lot, like when reading or trying to talk to another adult? How do you correct that?
