Re: Pro-choice or pro-life, how do you feel about this
I am undecided about how I feel on this... I understand the 'why" I guess, but don't particularly agree with the "how"
What I "DO" think, is that it should be mandatory for a person to be heavily counseled 24 hours prior to the procedure being done (not dissuaded by any means, but educated) I say 24 hours because I think a patient should have the opportunity to process what they have learned.
I am pro-choice, but can see how having an abortion is sometimes abused ....

I posted this on the other thread, but I feel Its relevant on this thread as well:
(I want to be clear that I say the below with respect. The "YOU" part is anyone who is using THEIR beliefs and morals to force them on me (woman).)
1. I do not believe that "life" starts at conception. For me, its the potential of life, not life. It cant be sustained outside the woman untill, at LEAST 20 something weeks?
2. I believe that, although a VERY difficult decision (and all that goes with having an abortion), yes, its still JUST a medical procedure.
3. I believe that no one, on either side, will dis-suade someone from the other.
4. I believe that a womans life trumps ANY decision over any unborn fetus.
5. I believe by making archaic rules (MUST look at sono, must get parents permission, no 3rd trimester abortion, must do X before getting an abortion) that it makes women second class citizens. It puts womens lives in danger.
6. I believe, again, that a womans life is more important than the unborns.
7. And with that said, I beleieve that abortion must stay legal so WOMEN dont die. Whatever their reason's. It must be legal, and safe, and accessable.
8. I think its TORTURE to FORCE YOUR beliefs (not YOU specifically, but the religious right) on anyone. Since they believe that "life begins at conception", well, then they must make sure any woman considering an abortion MUST do things to maybe save the baby because YOU have a problem with it.
What happens if I dont have a problem with it?
9. I think, most women, CERTAINLY not all, know EXACTLY what they are they doing when they have an abortion. To make them feel worse is just disgusting and deplorable.
10. To force a woman to undergo a medical procedure, just so YOU can feel better, just do YOU can say "we tried", just so YOU can say "I forced my morals on somsone else"....is equivilant to communism.
11. And yes, I believe that I should be able to have an medical procedure without the GOVERNMENTS say. Period. I want my tubes tied? Great. I want an abortion? Great. I want a wart removed? Great.
Every law thats passed that LIMITS womens MEDICAL rights, is a law that makes this a communist state, and MAKES WOMEN second class citizens.
Every law thats passed limiting abortion is FORCING your religion on me. And lets face it, I think most people who are againt abortion are against it because of their religious beliefs. Im not saying ALL.
12. And no. Ultimatly I beleieve that the father should have no say. My body, my rules. My decision.
I submit this for discussion and in NO way want this to come off as disrespectfull. Thats not my intention.
Well said, and i agree with pretty much all of this, especially #8

Re: Pro-choice or pro-life, how do you feel about this
Posted by Kidsaplenty I also find it laughable that the same Republicans who introduce bills like this are the first to complain about welfare, wic, and medicaid funding for the children who are already here. Are they only pro-life until the child is born?
EXACTLY
I can't, when I think about it I become furious

That sounds horrific. Many of these women suffer from post abortion stress syndrome as it is, this sounds very cruel.
