Problem with central air?

Last summer and now today we noticed our central air won't go lower then 76 degrees until it cools off a bit outside...so right now its at least 80 out and inside is 76..anyone know what problem we are having? we obviously need a repair but just wondering if anyone knew if it would be a $$$$ one lol

also recommendations for companies would be great!!

Re: Problem with central air?

Sounds like it might need more coolant (freon, or equivalent). That should be pretty inexpensive. Hopefully it just needs a recharge. If it's cooling the house, that means that it's working for the most part. Are the filters clean?

Re: Problem with central air?

Hi

Thank you!! I hope it is just that...that is what my dad thinks also. The filters are brand new. Do I need to have a company put in coolant?

Re: Problem with central air?

Sounds like what happen to us last year - The ac was on but in the house it kept getting hotter and hotter. We had a leak in the system. We had Apple air come and fix it and it cost $300 or so to repair and refill the freon

Yea sounds like the freon. It is in the 300-400 range.

I know this sounds silly but also check the filter.

We use
U.S. Air Conditioning & Heating Inc.
600 I North Bicycle Path
Port Jefferson Station, NY 11776
Work: 631-473-0090

We have a service contract with them and each year they come and check the freon levels, ensure all the pumps are working, etc.

We had an issue last year with leakage and found the pump wasn't working and they replaced it.

I would definitely recommend a call. They have someone on call 24/7, so they can make emergency appts.
