progesterone borderline low

hi all-
I am freaking... i just got BW done 6 weeks 1 day pregnant and got a call today saying my progesterone levels are borderline low at 11.6 and it should be at least 15. She told me the levels go up and down thru-out the day. Is this tru? she said they could have tested an hour later and it could be 18.
anyway, i am staring progesterone vaginal suppositories tonite... i need to take them 2 times /day.
i really just want to hear your experiences with this.... i have no idea what to expect. any success stories with a similiar situation?

Re: progesterone borderline low

I was on the progesterone from 4 weeks to 10 weeks. So far so good for me! My OB said by now my placenta should have taken over the production.

Re: progesterone borderline low

I am on Progesterone in oil and have had no issues with progesterone. BUT you should be fine with supplementation. Probably 2X per day?

Re: progesterone borderline low

My progesterone was low (around 12) all throughout my first trimester. I was put on vaginal suppositories from week 5 through week 12 and everything progressed normally. I am just about 21 weeks along and the baby is perfect and I have no problems so don't worry too much.....it will be fine. Chat Icon

Re: progesterone borderline low

Yup that was me but my level was about 8.5. I took the vag suppositories until I was 12 weeks... twice daily. Stock up on pantyliners...you have to have them on or it will be a mess!! Stick the supp. up as far as you can, as there were times that I guess I didn't and instead of the supp. melting, it would come out somewhat whole. Chat Icon Not good. My Dr. also put me on pelvic rest... so no sex for me and DH until I was done with the suppositories. At 12 weeks I came off and I was happy!! You will be fine! Good luck!

Re: progesterone borderline low

My progesterone measured at 6 and they wanted it to be a minimum of 15. I was on supplements until 12 weeks. I am now almost 35 weeks. Chat Icon

Re: progesterone borderline low

I didn't have to be on bedrest, just pelvic rest... meaning no sex until 12 weeks when I came off of them. My suppositories needed to be refrigerated but I am pretty sure there are some that do not. I would call your pharmacy and ask if they need to be in the fridge. Good luck. Chat Icon

ok- i love all these positive stories. Were u taking the oral pill or vaginal suppositories? any dietery changes to increase progesterone? It took us YEARS to conceive and I wanna do all i can to keep this baby. we saw the heartbeat a couple days ago, so i am trying to stay positive.

I am on Progesterone in oil and have had no issues with progesterone. BUT you should be fine with supplementation. Probably 2X per day?

Does Progesterone in oil tend to be more effective? should i mention to dr?

My Dr feels yes it is. However I have never heard of it being used outside of IVF(how I got PG) You could also take oral. I am on one oral per day(250 mg of prometrium) as well as 1 CC of PIO. It is an intramuscular shot so not that fun. I would use the suppositories for two days, get retested and see where you stand. They are phasing me down to 1/2 CC next week and then I will just be on my oral until 16 weeks-this is over cautious since I have some immune issues and progesterone acts as an immunosuppressant. Your progesterone is not "that" low. And you DID see a HB. Try not to worry.Chat Icon

i was on an oral progesterine, called prometrium, and I took it three times a day, so the dose was 300 mg i think. No dietary changes though.
Good luck and congratsChat Icon i am sure everything will be fine. Its good that they caught it and you will begin the supplementsChat Icon Any questions feel free to FM me
