PSA - If your baby is inconsolable - CHECK their fingers and toes for hair or thread!!!!
Christmas Eve was a nightmare for us. DS is USUALLY the quietest baby - you wouldn't even know he is in the house. He NEVER cries - maybe when I'm too slow with his bottle, but that is it.
He wouldn't eat Christmas Eve. He cried ALLLLLL day. Every minute that he was awake, he cried. We were at MIL's house, so everyone was like "It's the milk, he's tired, he's cold, he has gas...." Ugghhhhhhh.
By 3 am I was beside myself. I called the emergency # and they told me to go to the ER. He had a slight fever, which I knew about, but nothing major.
GUESS what it was..... It was a HAIR TOURNIQUET. One of my hairs had wrapped itself around one of his toes and was cutting off the circulation. They said that it is usually the first thing they look for with inconsolable babies. It was so tight, they had to have a surgeon come down and cut the hair off
Even though they found the hair, because of the fever, and because he is only 3 months, they had to do blood, urine, nasal swab and a chest x-ray. POOR BABY.
I got home at 8:30 Christmas morning - just in time to open presents. Luckily DH let me get a few hours sleep before heading to my moms.
So - lesson learned. If DC is inconsolable for no reason, check the digits and the "external genitalia" for a hair tourniquet!

Re: PSA - Screaming babies....
I found one on DD when she was a few months old and no I check her toes every day LOL.
I am so sorry that happened, but so happy that it was nothing more serious.

Re: PSA - Screaming babies and PP hair loss
Thanks ladies. He cried all day yesterday too - the PED said he was probably traumatized by the whole experience. He seems a little better today

Re: PSA - Screaming babies and PP hair loss
I think you should change your title for a better PSA, it is very IMPORTANT info to share. This happened to my cousin's DC and the child literallly almost lost her toe, it was BLACK when they realized there was a hair wrapped around it. Luckily the toe was saved.
I am glad your DC is ok.

I agree - If I had left it any longer, he would have needed to have his toe cut and stitches!!!
what should I write?

I think your new title is perfect. I am very very glad your DC is ok ! I always worried about this with DD and always would check her.

What a NIGHTMARE!!! It's so bizarre, I had read about this scenario when I was pregnant, I forget if it was here on LIF or somewhere else. So when I went through the "shedding" phase I was *paranoid* about this and frequently checked DS for it!!! So glad your DC is ok and thanks for the PSA for our new mommies

And for moms of little boys, also check to make sure there's nothing wrapped around his little pee pee. I've known this to happen to more than one mom (just think - when you change him and you're leaning right over him).

Absolutely! They checked his penis really thoroughly because of that! Could you imagine????

I've heard of this happening many times to baby boys. Also, if you have a plush or fluffier carpet, even those little tiny hairs can wrap themselves around baby's small parts.
