PSA: It is never too early to talk to your DC about car safety....
Remember last week I posted that Cailen went onto a country road during a wedding, and how freaked out I was? It was a very busy road with trucks, etc....
Last night, I talked to Cailen a little more about it, since we are going away again and it is a folk festival - cars drive everywhere - on the grass (where I know he will think he is out of the car's way) - because there will be camping.
He told me he will be careful, and I brought up that he went into the road at the wedding and how sad that made me.
"But mommy, I didn't get bumped by a car. I waited and there were no more cars!"
I asked him how he did that.
He looked both ways, saw that there were no cars.
I am so thankful for that! But, I was even more thankful because I have done that with him since he was in my arms.
Before crossing any street, I would point and say - "Are there cars coming that way?" in both directions. If there were cars coming, I would explain we had to wait, and then ask again. Then we would cross.
For me, it was a little game, and a way to engage him and make him more aware of his surroundings.
I never expected him to use that so well to keep himself safe!
So, it is never too early to make your DC aware of cars and what to do. You never know when they may wander away from you!!!!
