Pull-ups/potty training questions
We're on day 1 of underpants. So far, 4 accidents and 2 pee pee on potty - with a major resistant tantrum in between (which I feel horrible about).
The ped told me to go straight to underpants - no pull ups. But what about going out? We don't have anything planned unti Friday (which is why I started underpants today so I could be home with him and be consistent), but if by then he's still having accidents (which I'd imagine he will be) should I do pull ups for outings for now, or let him have an accident in public? I don't want him to be embarassed or upset over it in front of other children.
Also, when potty training, do you skip the onesies? I usually have Ryan in a long sleeved onesie under his clothes but haven't put him in one today since it seems to make this more difficult.
Any other tips? I feel so guilty that he had the tantrum over it. I don't want to force this on him - is it normal for them to have the tantrums during the process??
TIA

Re: Pull-ups/potty training questions
How old is your DS? For potty training my DD I have to admit doing it cold turkey, no pull ups was the best way to go..she was realy trained in a few days, slept over night without a problem too..She was 28 mths when we did it. Ofcourse I was nervous about going out and accidents too, but they will surprise you, once they get it, they don't want to be sitting in dirty underwear ....it might be worth a try to put him in a pair of his favorite undies (dd got so excited when she saw sesame street undies in the store) and tell him that the game is to keep them clean and dry..thats what i did and she liked playing it..hth

Re: Pull-ups/potty training questions
Maddie didn't really start going on the potty until we skipped the pull-ups- so I do agree there... unfortunately with the pull-ups, they just don't fell the sensations they should feel of wetting as the pull-ups are too much like diapers.
I suppose you can go to pull-up for the outing.
When we were training maddie we went into the city for her birthday and she wore a pull-up for most of the trip since she was only about 65% trained at that time.
We haven't worn onesies for a long while now- I would say ditch them 'cause eventually you'll want him to go on his own.. and unsnapping the onesie would be too hard!

Re: Pull-ups/potty training questions
He's 21 months. We plan to do underpants in the house, but not sure about pull ups when we go out in the beginning.
He has gone on the potty several times (I'd say 50+ times since he was 18 months) but we never focused on training him until... well, this morning

Re: Pull-ups/potty training questions
We do pull ups if we're going to be out of the house for a long period of time.
But I still make sure to ask him regularly if he wants to go potty.
In my experience so far the pull ups make him take a MAJOR step backwards - they are just too much like diapers.
So my rule is pull ups only at night time and if we're going out for a while.

Re: Pull-ups/potty training questions
I have never used pull ups. Ever. If we have to go out, I bring along wipes, extra pants, underwear, and socks. I also have a potty in my car "just in case".
DS# 1 was PTed at 30 months DS# 2 was PTed at 31 months and DD was at 25 months.

Re: Pull-ups/potty training questions
We started with pull ups in April, for me there was never an accident in them. For my sitter however, she constantly went in them. The sitter did not believe that for me evnings and weekends that she was trained. The first day of summer break, i switched to undies and there was never another accident. I just didnt feel comfortable making the switch to underwear at the sitters house, and her having an accident.

Re: Pull-ups/potty training questions
We got training pants from BBB. (They are in the Harmon section by the pull ups at the one in Westbury).
They also sell a vinyl cover for them so that their clothes don't get soiled every 20 minutes.
We skipped onesies since we are potty training- and we just wear an undershirt if its really cold out.
