Pumping Moms.. Dip in supply question
I'm an EP.. 4 questions for anyone willing to help!
I used to pump a consistent 22/23 ounces a day. For the past 6 days, I've pumped 20/21. Q1 - Is this an official "dip in supply?"
About 3 weeks ago I went from pumping 6x a day to 5x a day most days <a few 6x a days thrown in>. Q2 - Could this be the cause? Would it be delayed by a few weeks?
Q3 - Will I level off at this level, or will it continue to trend downward?
Q4 - If this was because AF was coming, would this dip last for DAYS like it has been? <I'm 4 months PP>

Re: Pumping Moms.. Dip in supply question
Did you go back to work yet? My supply dipped right when I came back but then went back up again.
AF dip should only be for a few days.
Some women have to keep up a certain number of pumpings a day in order to not notice a dip in supply. Others can go down to TWICE a day!
If you stay with the same pumping times, it should level off where you are now.
And, to increase your supply in a YUMMY way. . .
Buy a container of REAL oatmeal, make oatmeal cookies and eat two each time you pump followed by a big glass of water - you will be busting with milk!

Re: Pumping Moms.. Dip in supply question
Once AF returned, I would dip for about 5 days. 3 or so beforehand, and then it would go back about 2 days into AF.
Cutting out a session def decreases supply as well.
Water, oatmeal, fenugreek, breast massage, extending pumping session to second let down - all can help get you back on track

delish!
I went back this week.. so I knew I'd be down to 5 sessions and started getting my body used to it about 3 weeks ago with a few 5x a days in there.
Do you think just going to work and the "stress" of starting work again could cause something like this? Or were you implying work = less pumping = less milk?

Just saw this. Many moms say that the stress/ less sleeping of going back to work can decrease their supply - and it should bounce back!

Re: Pumping Moms.. Dip in supply question
Stress is the #1 cause of a dip in supply for me. Make sure you are drinking enough water and eating enough calories. The oatmeal should help and pump for about 2 min after you stop getting milk so that this stimulates more milk production.

Re: Pumping Moms.. Dip in supply question
When my supply dropped, I just started pumping for longer each session and I was able to get more milk.

Re: Pumping Moms.. Dip in supply question
I BF'd DS until he was 11 months old...
I went back to work when he was 3 months, and mostly pumped from then on in (except for a bed time and middle of the night feeding)
I had to pump every 2-3hrs until he was 11 months old; to maintain my supply...
If there was 1 day; where I gave myself a long span between pumping sessions the next day my supply would dip...
If I didnt eat or drink enough 1 day, my supply would dip...
If I was stressed or didnt sleep enough, my supply would dip....
When I started getting AF at 9 months post partum; my supply took a big dip and I never was able to fully get it back...
I had a huge frozen stash; but eventually had to supplement 1 bottle/day with formula; which was OK...
All I know, is I had to really work at keeping my supply up; and any kind of change would effect it my output...
ETA- starting at about 6-7months old; I was taking 3 fenugreeks with every meal (so 3x's/day) I really dont believe it made a difference; but I kept up with it JUST IN CASE it helped...
