PVC Vs. Wood Fence
DH and I are in a disagreement over which type of fence.....could you please list the pros and cons of each so that way I could try to persuade him to see my side

PVC all the way. lasts longer, sturdier, easier to clean, no maintenance.

I would say PVC also. I have wood now and can't wait to change it.

Me too! PVC all the way. Yes it costs more, but in the long run the PCD last a very long time. All you have to do is hose it off sometimes. And I just think it looks nicer then wood, imo. GL!

I take it that your hubby prefers the wood fence? tell him that he will need to polyurethane the fence yearly so it doesn't tarnish lol

Re: PVC Vs. Wood Fence
We have wood, and I replaced parts of it with wood for a few reasons. Mainly, I couldn't afford to replace everything with PVC at the time. It was a lot cheaper to just buy a few pieces at a time and swap out the old, rotting pieces with newer pieces.
However, given a choice, I'd rather have the PVC for the longevity, low maintenance and look factors. With wood, you either paint/stain it every year or two, or let it turn an ugly (IMO) greyish color....
I love the look of brand-new wood fencing, but that only lasts a year, then you're stuck with grey fence for the next 10 years (if it doesn't rot earlier)

Re: PVC Vs. Wood Fence
I totally agree with PVC being maintenance free....but I choose wood. Sure it takes a little work but I feel that it looks much more natural and blends better in a backyard landscape. JMO

Re: PVC Vs. Wood Fence
Unless you do it yourself, only need a very small section or get the basic wood, wood is now almost as much as PVC fences.
We got a PVC.
- last longer (no warping of wood, rotting, painting, etc..) - virtually no maintenance - Just a bit higher $ than wood (price of wood has increased a lot in the last 1-2 years).

Re: PVC Vs. Wood Fence
We're definitely going with PVC to replace the gates. The wood is all rotted and the broken slats keep falling over, making for a not-so-pretty look.

You can't put up a PVC fences in a California subdivision but the idea is good...

Re: PVC Vs. Wood Fence
I am debating this myself right now. PVC might last longer, but when it is time to take it down and replace it, what happens to it? Wood fencing is biodegradable, plastic is not. On the other hand, getting wood fence is cutting down trees. However I would only get fencing that comes from a managed forest.

Same here. I would even rather have a chain link fence with some sort of privacy slats over a PVC fence.

I also hate PVC. Wood looks much more natural in my opinion, but to each their own.
