Q about kids who won't drink milk from a sippy
So we have successfully dropped the morning and lunchtime bottles (not up to doing the nighttime one yet). But, one DS absolutely REFUSES to drink milk from a sippy. The other one will at least drink an ounce or two but that's about it. I've tried all kinds of sippies and nothing. They take water fine from a straw sippy.
They get plenty of cheese/yogurt etc. so I'm not too worried about it, but do I keep offering milk in a sippy at every meal? I am cleaning so many freaking cups for no reason. Will they eventually just drink it if they want it and I keep offering? I know it's normal for their consumption to go down once they are off bottles, but I didn't think it would go to zero. Thanks.

How much milk do they drink all day?
With DS I really only give him 1 sippy of milk all morning, as soon as he wakes up he drinks a lot, I used to give him water in the morning but since he's so thirsty he'll take a lot of milk. I fill it to 10oz, by his morning nap he'll drink at least 8oz, sometimes the whole thing. Then all afternoon he gets water or juice sometimes and at night he gets 8-9oz in the bottle.
So he really only has 1 sippy of milk during the day but still on avg getting at least 16oz of milk plus the regular dairy foods. If you dont give the milk sippy as soon as they wake up, try that.

Thanks Carissa. At this point C is only drinking 8 oz (his nighttime bottle) and N like maybe 10 oz. They eat breakfast pretty soon after they wake up, I always give water with meals - do you think if I take away the water and offer milk with breakfast that might work? I mean, how long could a standoff really last? LOL

I just kept on offering it, and eventually he started to take it. Keep trying!

I would definitely only offer milk, at least first. When he was just starting milk I gave him things that made him thirsty on purpose. Now he likes it so its not an issue but it should make a huge difference, even if its only a few sips of milk first and then they realize they dont like it and want water, its a little bit more, kwim?
How do you give them their water? Do you give it to them cold, right out of the refrig? Or is it room temp. I would serve milk the same temp as water, that helped too. Thankfully he likes cold water so he's fine with cold milk out of the refrig. I do warm his bedtime bottle a little bit, just because it seems nicer to have warm milk before bed. GL!

They love cold water right from the fridge so it's the same temp as the milk. I am going to try milk and no water in the a.m. tomorrow. Thanks!
