There are so many tests out there my head is spinning. What, if any, genetic/chromosomal testing did you get done and when? Amnio, panorama, CVS?

I am 38 and only did blood work to see my percentages of having any issues. All percentages were low so I didn't go ahead with any invasive tests.

I am 40 and was thinking about just the panorama test at week 10 which is just a blood test, non-evasive, and then the NT at week 12 Chat Icon I just don't want to be pushed into other unnecessary testing simply because of my age.

I understand but I must say my drs were pretty understanding bc I had 3 previous losses and didn't want to chance anything. The only other test I was considering was the materna 21 but was told bc this was originally a triplet pregnancy (we lost 1) that the results would be skewed.

I was 38 when I had DS. I had no desire to have any additional testing done and the OB never even brought it up.
If we get pregnant again (fingers crossed) I will not have any additional testing done.
No one can force anything on you. They can only recommend and wait for your decision.

Oh, I wonder if that will impact the panorama test too - this was a twin pregnancy but lost one. Thank you for your response.

I was 35 and got the amnio and that was it.
No need for other tests if you are doing the amnio.
I am very glad I did...gave me 100% piece of mind.

I did the NT as well as the Panorama. Bc of being of "advanced maternal age", you should be able to meet with a genetic counselor who will explain all of your options. My OB wanted me to go straight for the amnio. I was 34 when I got pregnant, am 35 now for delivery. I saw no reason to have invasive testing done based on age alone.

Q for

I was 38 with my DS and only had an amnio done. The 12 weeks tests tend to show too many false results due to age along and it wasn't worth the stress. My dr didn't do the cvs otherwise I may have done that since they do it sooner than an amnio.

Amnio was not bad at all it was more the anxiety leadi g up to it.

If you have specific questions on an amnio let me know I'm happy to talk about mine.

Thank you!! Do they do the amino at the OB/GYN office or is it an outpatient thing?

Q for

I am doing both parts of the Ultra Screen and the Maternit21 blood panel. I don't plan on doing an amnio unless the results come back concerning. But my Part 1 Ultra Screen test looked good.

What is Ultra Screen? At how many weeks did you do that? And I am pretty certain Maternit21 is like panorama, just a blood test right?

Q for

Its the NT, Ultra Screen is actually the name of the test. Everyone refers to it as the NT because the Ultra Screen measures nuchal Translucency or the NT. Your supposed to do it between week 11-14, though my center pretty much insisted on Week 12.

The second screen is performed around week 16 and in addition to still looking for Down and Trisomy, it can scan for neural tube defects. You can do the amnio even after the second scan, so I figured I would have this first.

Q for

My OB sends you out to Madonna Perinatal and I met with the genetic counselor there who was very informative. I was apprehensive about the genetic counselor at first. I'll be 35 for a month when I give birth, putting me marginally in the "advanced maternal age" category. But I was so glad I went there.

Re: Q for "older" moms - what testing did you get done?

I was 38 when I had DD. I was a few weeks away from turning 40 when I had DS. I had an amnio with DD at 16 weeks. With DS, I had the Verifi and would have done a CVS if there were concerns with the results. Since there weren't, I had an amnio at 16 weeks.

Feel free to FM if you want to talk about it ??

I'm going to be 40 right before I'm due. I'm planning on doing all tests. I go today and will speak with my Ob.

I'm not that old. Only 32, but my nt results were abnormal so I had the CVS. Definitely worth the 100% peace of mind. Chat Icon
