Quartz or Granite?
I am hearing great things about quartz. We are going to be redoing our kitchen, so would you choose quartz over granite?

Re: Quartz or Granite?
Just did this, chose Quartz and very happy. Granite is not as consistent, it's less durable and also some say it emits radiation.

Re: Quartz or Granite?
Some of the new quartz looks more varied and "natural" than some granite. We chose Quartz and would definitely do it again.

Quartz or Granite?
A contractor we interviewed wondered why anyone would pay more for Quartz if it's manmade and Granite is Natural Stone. He also said granite does not stain, but another contractor said it does. I have heard nothing but good about Quartz, but his comments made me wonder if I was missing something.

Quartz or Granite?
We chose granite. I love the randomness of the pattern (or I guess it would be lack of pattern, technically). Our granite place put a lifetime sealer on it and it protects against all food and drink - we haven't had a problem with it. Only problem was with a flyer from school that was hot pink - it got wet and sat on the counter - left a pink stain but we were able to get it out with a poultice. We have a light color granite though - I'm guessing it wouldn't be as much of a concern with a dark color. As for radiation, our granite has very little - it varies by the type of granite and we are not concerned about it at all. I checked the quartz when we were shopping, but I didn't like the plastic feel of it.

Re: Quartz or Granite?
I chose quartz for my kitchen and for my bath and love it. So easy to clean, no sealing or worrying about chipping, staining. I don't do it often, but you can put hot pots directly on the surface witihout any damage.

Re: Quartz or Granite?
I have had both.
I tend to LEAN slightly toward granite.
But I really loved both.
I saw a kitchen recently with soapstone -- THAT looked awesome.

Re: Quartz or Granite?
I have granite and I LOVE it. I love how random and imperfect it is, I think that's what makes it so unique. I've seen nice quartz too but when we did our kitchen over I just fell in love with the granite more.
ETA - The whole "sealing" thing everyone complains about is a cinch. ONCE a year you spray it with the sealer, let it sit, then wipe it away. Honestly, it's SO easy. I've also NEVER had a staining problem.............even with spills like red wine that sit for a while.
