Question - 6 Weeks, Heartbeat Not Detected
Hello Ladies,
I have seen questions like this on the board before and noticed that many have happy endings. Sorry if this is long, but I have a lot of questions.
I have had a very regular 28 day cycle since I went off of the pill three months ago. I got a positive pregnancy test (well, 4 positive tests on October 7th and I believe my period was due on October 5th. I had my first doctors appointment on Wednesday and according to all of the due date calculators, was 7w 5d pregnant. However, according to the crown to rump measurement (which I believe was 4MM), the baby was measuring at 6w 0d.
My doctor told me that he wanted me to get more blood drawn on Saturday and to come back next Wednesday for another sonogram. The way he positioned it, he said we should be able to see the heartbeat at the next visit, if not he would still not be too worried and have me come back the following Wednesday. Then he said if the heartbeat wasn't detected "it may not be a viable pregnancy".
I am about 50 percent optimistic at this point. This is my first pregnancy and have had a good feeling about it from the beginning (although unexptected pregnancy, was positive about the baby being healthy).
However, a couple of things that scare me. If I know I have a cycle that is pretty close to perfect, how could I have been off by a week and five days? That makes me think that something is wrong.
Also, I have had mild cramping the whole time - which I think is a good sign because it is mild. However, I had extreme naseau weeks 4 and 5 and now it is almost completely gone, which of course, scares me.
Any insight you have/your experiences shared, would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you!

Re: Question - 6 Weeks, Heartbeat Not Detected
first of all - welcome to the boards!!!
i had the EXACT same scenario not two weeks ago, so did Frankie (who i'm sure will reply later, she's a West Coaster)....
If you ovulated late (which is ENTIRELY possible)....that would explain the date being off just a bit. For me - that was the exact reason.
I promise you - even 2 days can make a HUGE difference. It was assumed I was 4 days ahead of where I was and we had the scare of a lifetime...
We were told by the doc - we should've seen something by now...come back in 3 days. You have no idea how hard those 3 days were....oh my GOD...
Then, three days later - we had the most beautiful sound in the world - we heard the heartbeat....saw the heartbeat and now we are fine. I was 3-4 days off as far as date and that made all the difference in the WORLD...
You are NOT alone with this - many, many of us have been there! If you need ANYTHING, feel free to FM....

What I can tell you, is that it really is entirely possible you ovulated late this cycle. Same thing happened to my sister, and my nephew is now 14 months old!
This is has also happened to many of the ladies here as well. Just a few days or even a week makes a big difference in the early stages of pregnancy.
