Question about attending a wake
Hi I'm Jewish so I don't have a lot of experience with this so heres my question..
If a very close friend had a death in their family should we be going to all the scheduled times for the wake or or are u just supposed to go once and than attend the funeral? Thanks!

Re: Question about attending a wake
That's totally up to you. There is no etiquette when it comes to that. It's what you are comfortable with.
Sorry for your loss.

Question about attending a wake
It depends on how close you are. If it was my BFF's family member, I'd probably go to all of the wakes. But for most people going to one wake session is fine. Many more people usually attend the wake than the funeral. But there aren't any rules about not going to the funeral- unless they say family only or something. I'm sorry for your loss!

Question about attending a wake
Like the PP's said, it is up to you. The only wakes I have gone to all sessions are close family members. If it was my best friends family, I'd probably try to go to each evening session and the funeral. For people not as close with, once is fine. But any is appropriate.

Question about attending a wake
I'd say once unless your friend requests you come back.
Of any family wakes I've been to I don't recall anyone attending multiple sessions unless they also were a close family member of the deceased.

Re: Question about attending a wake
I think one full session for the wake is sufficient, plus attending the funeral.

Completely agree! Actually many times when it was a family member I only attended one session and then the funeral the next day.

One session. Sign the visitor's book when you arrive. It will be by the door.
