Question about babies that needed to be held a lot.

My DD likes to be held a lot. She's quite needy in that area. She will be okay for only like 15 minutes in the swing or bouncy and then she wants to be held.

My question is....when do they outgrow this? Its hard to hold her all day.

Did you always hold her when she wanted it or did you let her cry. I dont want to spoil my DD. Right now she is only 2 months and my mom says that im spoiling her and others on here say you can spoil a baby that young. I dont know what the right answer is.

dd was my first and i admit my whole family spoiled her. she was constantly held by someone, me, dh, her aunts, uncles, etc. every little wimper we ran for her. i used to hold her for hours on end. i know now, that was a bad move. i learned very quickly with baby #2, that its ok to let them fuss al little and get themselves to sleep and its ok to let them just sit in their boucncer, swing, rocker etc by themselves. right now she is only 2 months. shes still so little and you cant really spoil them. but try letting her fuss a lilttlel without running to hold her, i PROMISE, she will be fine, and they learn to sooth themselves to sleep. its better for everyone all around.

have you tried a baby wrap? the Utlimate Baby Wrap was GREAT for my DS. I could hold him in the wrap but still have my hands free to get things done!

My daughter was EXACTLY the same way. By 4.5 months she wanted nothing to do with being held. Probably even earlier than that, like 4 months. But up until then, I constantly had her in one arm.
Have you tried a sling or infant carrier?

Re: Question about babies that needed to be held a lot.

I had a baby who loved to be held too and IMO when they are babies you give them what they need....before you know it they will be running away from you and you will be remembering those precious moments when you could hold them....

I used the baby bjorn for moments like that when I needed to get stuff done and she was fussing...worked a treat...I think the wraps are probably even better as they are more of a sling effect.

My DD grew out of it around 6mths but she still needs to be held when she is tired / cranky etc at 14mths.

Re: Question about babies that needed to be held a lot.

Maybe you can talk to your Dr about how to deal with this-
some believe you are spoiling them by always holding them and to let them CIO, others say they will eventually grow out of it.

I feel that all babies are different and some are just more needy than others.

I hate to tell you this, but my son is almost 17 months old, and he crys for me to hold him all day long ( and he's heavy!) he has always been like this from when he was a baby.
I give in because he has an older brother who is almost 2 1/2 yo,and its hard bc they are so close in age and I feel I give so much attention to the bigger one that I might neglect my little one, so I over compensate by spoiling him ie-holding him!
I hope that your little one grows out of it soon!

Re: Question about babies that needed to be held a lot.

Can I add that I do not think that you can spoil a baby that small. How in the world can you spoil a baby by giving them what they need? They cannot feed or change themselves or even in most cases soothe themselves. I mean, if you were lugging around a 10 month old all day, I might tell you it's time to try crying it out a bit, but you're not. You have a newborn that obviously needs you close by. When I was going through it, I thought it would never ever end, and when it did end, I missed it more than anything. Now she's a maniac of a 10 month old crawling all over and I'm lucky if I can grab her for a snuggle every once in a while.
I know it's so hard. I know. But please just enjoy it and try to find a way to make it work for you. The infant carrier really works wellChat Icon

I think my DD was held 24/7 for about 4 months and then little by little it started to get better. Honestly looking back as hard as it was I don't mind it. She's getting big so fast that I miss all that snuggle time I used to have with her.

Re: Question about babies that needed to be held a lot.

we are at 3.5 months now and he is getting a little better. He will now sit in the stroller on walks. He will sit in Bumbo while I get ready in the morning. He gives me 15 minutes of mobile time in his crib about twice a day...so we are improving.

I hear the same thing about spoiling him...I brought it up to the doctor-he said spoiling with love and affection? there are worse things..

I pretty much held my son until he learned to crawl, so maybe about six months.

Babies are designed to be held! Hold them as much as you can! When I try to hold my squirmy toddler I ache for those days when he was a tiny baby and he would just want to cuddle!!!
