Question about babysitter pay...
We pay my babysitter daily, a flat rate for each day.
We never really officially discussed it, but if it's a day that I have planned off (I'm a teacher) we haven't payed her, because we gave her my school calander over the summer.
However, if it's a day that we kept Emily home because she was sick -- we payed her, because it was out of her control.
I don't know what to do about the week that I am off for the holidays. We normally wouldn't pay her, since it's a planned week off, but I feel like she might need the money at holiday time and going without a whole week of pay is rough.
Yet we don't really ahve the extra money this time of year either...
I am just not sure what to do and was wondering what everyone else does in this situation.

Re: Question about babysitter pay...
What about giving her a holiday bonus? Your not technically paying her for the week, but your giving her something fr the holiday.

We were definately going to give her a holiday bonus --- but we weren't planning on it being a full week's pay -- more like half or a little over half....

Re: Question about babysitter pay...
My feeling is that we are getting paid, therefore, the sitter should get paid. They rely on that money just as much as we do! As a teacher, I know how hard it is to have part-time pay as you go help!

Re: Question about babysitter pay...
not babysitting, no need to pay her. Maybe give a little extra beforehand?

Re: Question about babysitter pay...
I babysit a teacher's child. I won't get paid, I don't expect to get paid. I saw it as a benefit to watching a teacher's kid...I have the holidays off.
I am also not in need of the money though, so maybe its different for me.

Re: Question about babysitter pay...
We pay our babysitter/nanny (is there a difference? ) for all days she's scheduled to work (mon-tues-wed) regardless if she works or not (plus, we can "trade" days). However, since you have already set it with your babysitter that she doesn't get paid, I don't see why you would. I think the idea of a generous holiday gift is a great one -- in your case, I would suggest a week's pay. That seems to fit your concern.
