Question about C-sections?
Whenever they have a C-section on the Baby Story I notice that they make the husband leave the room only when they give the epidural and then he comes back in....why do they have to leave for the epidural? Do they have to leave in a vaginal birth if you get an epidural too?? Just wondering.....

Re: Question about C-sections?
I was told it was hospital policy because of Insurance reasons.

Re: Question about C-sections?
Yes, I had a c/s with my first and DH waited outside until they were ready to begin the surgery. He was not there for my spinal.
I had an epi with my second child and the doc just told my DH to sit and look the other way But he was allowerd in the room (I was going for a v-birth with my second).

Re: Question about C-sections?
Same happened with me - they told me he wasn't allowed in, until i was prepped b/c the area was sterilized. once they had me laying down and draped, they called him in - he wore scrubs and a hair net w/nose & mouth guard. he was allowed to sit by my head and then when they were getting ready to pull Rocco out, they asked him to stand and start taking pics. he was then allowed to walk over where rocco was cleaned and my doc continued to sew me up.

Re: Question about C-sections?
I gave birth at St. Catherines (c-section) and my husband was never asked to leave. He was there the whole time and I leaned on him while they gave me the epi. It is the choice of the anethesiologist (sp?). I would assume they are worried that the husband may pass out or something and disrupt the process.

I guess it goes by hospital then, because they made my mom and hubby wait out in the hallway.

I think like someone else said, it is up to the anestheologist (sp)

Does anyone know why?
At Huntington they ask partners to leave the room while giving epidural - the explanation I was given is so they don't have to scrape the person up off the floor after they see the needle.

Re: Question about C-sections?
If they don't insist on it, I will make sure he leaves. He has a needle issue. I don't need him passing out.

I have heard the same thing. I also begged to see the needle (I am a sicko! ) and they wouldnt let me - not even after they gave it to me. I asked why and they said I would never have another kid after seeing the size of the needle!

Same here. DH was not allowed in during the Spinal, but since I had an emergency c-section, he was scrubbing & draping anyway when I got the block.

Re: Question about C-sections?
My DH was not allowed in until have they put in my cahterter (sp?) and gave me my spinal and got me ready for surgery. They actually were working on me when he came in. My doctor told me it was because they don't want to deal with DH who pass out and get injured. Made sense to me.
A nurse was great with me while i was getting my spinal. She had me lean on her shoulders and she kept calming me down because i was so tense. She did a better job calming me then DH would have for sure!
