Question about claims and home owners insurance
If you call in your insurance company for a claim and they come out to inspect it and determine the damage isn't covered. Does that still show up as a claim even though nothing was paid out?

Re: Question about claims and home owners insurance
I wouldn't think so. If you are paying then it should not appear as a filed claim.

Thats what I assumed too. But my agent told me it would and Im wondering if this is normal.
Also if a claim does get put through does that go against the agent at all? Basically if they show a lot of claims from their clients does that look bad for him/her?

Question about claims and home owners insurance
The claim will still show up as a claim with a zero payout. You did file the claim with them and that's all that "counts" as far as claims go.
If there is a next time, maybe speak with your agent first and tell them the situation and they should be able to tell you if its a covered loss or not (for the most part - there are a lot of exclusions also). That way there won't be a claim filed if its not covered.

As mentioned here, it does show up as a claim. you made a claim, there was no payout. It shows up on your CLUE report. This is used in evaluating whether to give you insurance and to price it.
So basically, yes, making a claim with no payout can count against you. So talking to your agent if you trust them not to report it, is the better play to determine whether you have a real claim or not.

Thank you so much. Very helpful. I did explain the situation and she said it wouldnt be covered. So be careful about calling and filing because it will still show up as a claim even if nothing is paid out. And could be used against me in the future.
I just found it odd.
Thanks again

I guess they have to note for their records because they did provide an inspection and as a safeguard. To possibly hold against you though seems unfair.
