Question about hospitals

How far is the hospital you're delivering at from your house? I am trying to pick a new ob/gyn and am trying to figure out how far is too far.

Thanks! Chat Icon

Re: Question about hospitals

Thanks for the fast replies!

I am debating if I should see Dr. Hanauer, who is at Winthrop or someone else affiliated with LIJ. I live in Queens and would have to take the Northern State to both. I think Winthrop is 4 exits from LIJ. I am just worried this is too far.

Also, can someone tell me about Winthrop? I am not too familiar with this hospital.

Re: Question about hospitals

Winthrop is an excellent hospital.

my friend worked for winthrop and LIJ (Schneiders) as a nurse, she has nothing but good things to say about both.

With my first I was a 40 minute drive away from my hospital and it was fine.

This time I am about 10 minutes away.

Re: Question about hospitals

I live in Queens and my hospital is in the city.

To be more specific, live in Maspeth, hospital is on 58th and 10th. So, without traffic, it is about 15 minutes away by car.

Re: Question about hospitals

I live on Staten Island, and my hospital is probably about 15 minutes away. But I have an advantage if I need it, DH is a FDNY EMT, he could always take me Chat Icon

All kidding aside, I worry that my hospital is too far from my job because I work in Manhattan, but I just thinking that I will take a week or two before my EDD (if things progress normaly) off to prepare and rest at home.

From where you are, either hospital is good and not that far. Remember, most first babies don't come that quickly!

Re: Question about hospitals

Thanks everyone. I am going to discuss this with DH and then make a decision. Dr. Hanauer has gotten such good reviews and I think I really want to go see her. I never realized I would stress this much before getting pg!

Re: Question about hospitals

not very far...which is very important for me. i basically "popped" with my first child so i need to be really close to the hospital. i think it's about 15 minutes max, due to traffic lights for me.

Re: Question about hospitals

Winthrop has a nicer labor and delivery area then LIJ but north shor in manhasset is suppose to be wonderful!!
I worked at Winthrop in the ER and i now work in schiender's children's hospital. I would check with your insurance and decide from there!!
