Re: Question about income, am I in the minority?
I am 28 & DH is 29. With our combined income we do not qualify for the new incentive program.
DH & I purchased our house almost 3 years ago all on our own. Honestly, the majority of the money was from DH's investments over the past 10 years. We did not have any help & did purchase in a high market.
I fell into my career when I was still in college & never thought almost 10 years later, I would still be here. The pay is good & my commute is awesome. Of course I don't make what I want to make but it pays the bills.
DH always knew his calling was in sales. He got his MBA in 2002 & used it to his advantage. The year that we bought our house, he took a better job position working in NYC for the food industry. Of course since he strives to succeed, he makes it a point to make the money he does. His salary is based on commission, so if there is a bad month, we feel it but luckily enough DH is so strong-willed that he never comes home with less then a certain $.
We do consider ourselves fortunate to be in the stage of our lives that we are especially with being in our 20's. Until I met my DH & he showed me the ropes of investing & saving, I had nothing & probably never would have. All I can say is, don't get discouraged bc your time will pay off. I have to agree, at the end of the day, no matter how what your income is, it is never enough & remember that money does not solve all problems, sometimes it makes them worse

Re: Question about income, am I in the minority?
Dh and I do not make anywhere near $150K but we do fine on what we do make.
We bought a house last summer so we have a high mortgage payment which eats up most of our money. Other than that we find ways to make what we have work. We share one car which is annoying at times but it keeps money in the bank. Any work we are doing to our home we do ourselves. We still manage to go to dinner, concerts and travel.
We are very aware of what money is coming in and make sure that we never live above our means. We pay all our credit cards off in full and try to save a little bit each month.
Since we bought the house we don't get to do everything we want or go everywhere we want but we are hoping after a few years we will be making more and the mortgage will not be such a huge dent in our income.

We're in the 75-100K margin. We own a home, and work close to home, and there are times we struggle A LOT.

interesting you put it that way being I live in your town as well as some others and I'm pretty sure I can name 4 of us that are all in different income brackets.

He has always been a saver but really did a lot of it once he was 18. I don't know how he did it but then again his parents use to always make sure they saved....

Art supplies are sooooo expensive!!!! When I was in college i didn't realize it - I didn't have bills so all my $ went to supplies and materials. I would drop $200 on paint and brushes and not think twice I don't do much painting anymore (my apt. was broken into about 5 years ago & they stole all of my art supplies) but now I do alot of fabric dying and quilting - I probably spent $150 per quilt and usually give them away. DH goes and plays with lights at a theatre and brings home $1000

Re: Question about income, am I in the minority?
We're well under the combined $150K max so we qualify for the check. We make enough to get by but not without dipping into our savings every month. I'd say that's not living comfortably on LI, but I wouldn't say we're poor either.

Re: Question about income, am I in the minority?
I am 32 and my husband is 38. His income alone disqualifies us from receiving the refund. So while we make very good money, we also have a lot of responsibilities that other people don't.
For instance, my mom is disabled and I pay all of her bills. His mom is retired, doesn't work and she lives with us. All of her bills are "our" bills. People tease us that we are dual income, no kids but I say that we are dual income with two parents.

Re: Question about income, am I in the minority?
Im 29 and DH is 30...we're close to the $150K cap but definitely not over it...I think the majority of people are under the $150K, which in my opinion is A LOT of money...so you're actually in the majority.

When I was working, we'd probably make over the 150k. But I'm a SAHM now, so we don't come close.

Re: Question about income, am I in the minority?
DH makes almost more than triple the amount of money I make. He has his master's degree and his CPA license where I only have a Bachelor's degree. But I have to say I make decent money as well. If it wasn't for DH, we wouldn't be able to afford our house and live so comfortably.

Re: Question about income, am I in the minority?
DH and I make less than $150,000 a year combined. We both have a master's degree but don't make as much money due to our field. However, we live very comfortably. Since we knew we wanted to buy a house, we started to cut back and save money. We still go out to dinner, concerts, vacation, etc. but we've worked very hard to be mindful of our spending.
I am 30 and DH is 31.

Some of you make so much money!! I used to feel so proud of how much I make being only 4 years out of college. but I don't make anywhere close to $75,000, nor does my DH.
