Re: QUESTION ABOUT IPAD FOR KIDS
We got our boys a kindle fire that is cheaper than the ipad. I think DH spent ~$100 on it, which is the same price as a leap pad. You can get apps on it.
It was inferior to the ipad and our kids would fight over the ipad so we ended up selling the kindle. We plan to buy an ipad1 for DS#2 who is almost 2. It was a god send for our recent trip to disney. It keeps them entertained at the airport and on the airplane.

Re: QUESTION ABOUT IPAD FOR KIDS
Buy the real one and then get One of these heavy duty kid safe cases to protect it. That way you can use it too, stream netflix cartoons, and whatever else you might like.

QUESTION ABOUT IPAD FOR KIDS
In another board I frequent, many posters recommended the Nabi tablet.

Re: QUESTION ABOUT IPAD FOR KIDS
We bought our 4 yr old son a kindle fire hd for his birthday and he loves it. I don't see it as being inferior to the ipad, especially for a child. It has basically the same apps and for $199 vs. $400+ it seemed like a better choice. You can create a profile just for the child and choose which apps he/she can access and even limit the amount of time they can use it. The profile is password protected so you don't have to worry about them getting on the internet or buying apps by accident.

Re: QUESTION ABOUT IPAD FOR KIDS
thanks for all these helpful responses. So glad they sell kids cases...my son dropped my mom's ipad and the screen shattered..so that's why i though a leappad was better..we actually bought one but are now thinking of returning it because the apps are pretty expensive..plus you can't get some of the popular games that my son will want.
We probably will just get the ipad for the whole family and let DS use it or maybe get the kindle.
Thanks!!!!!!!

QUESTION ABOUT IPAD FOR KIDS
we got the nabi which is android so it functions like a real tablet. it has crazy rubber all around it to prevent damage. we havent played with it yet but i know DD will love it since she always steals our phones and knows how to use all the apps.
