Question about lactation consultant
Is this a service provided by the hospital free of charge during your stay or do you get billed additional if you use one while you are there?

Re: Question about lactation consultant
In my hospital, Southside, it's free of charge. As is I believe most, while your there. Should you take her number and require services at home, there will most likely be her personal fee.
I'd call your hospital to check.

Re: Question about lactation consultant
I delivered in NSM both times and had consultation after my first baby. I never received any bills so I assume it was either covered by insurance-which I HIGHLT doubt, or free.

Re: Question about lactation consultant
They help you while you are in the hospital. Many of them will give you their info in case you want to call and use them when you get home (for a charge).

Re: Question about lactation consultant
While in the hospital it was free. After DS had feeding issues I had to pay even though her office was in the hospital.

Re: Question about lactation consultant
Free & the calls afterwards were. I was told if I had any questions or problems, that I could call.
LCs may also be covered through insurance outside of the hospital.
etd. to say I guess I shouldn't say free, but their visit was part of the hospital charges.

Re: Question about lactation consultant
The LC at my hospital (NSUM) was free (or at least included in my insurance because I never paid.) even though things seemed to be going well on my own in the hospital, I made sure to talk to the LC there and have her come in a watch BF. There was a number provided in my take home packet that I called several times after I got home - sometimes a few weeks later. If I didn't speak with someone right away, they called me back. It really really helped!
