Question about medical billing
Does anyone know how long a doctor has to bill you for his services? Is it a general guideline or is it by NYS law?
TIA for any and all help.

Question about medical billing
I know there is a nys law for timely filing to the insurance company and im pretty sure there is one to protect the patient as well. It could be as long as a year but dont quote me on that it could be less. You can contact your insurance company as well.

I've actually contacted my insurance co and they were of no help. I'm actually trying to speak with someone who might be able to help me, but I think they are so preoccupied with all of the new health insurance changes, plus, I am no longer insured by them.
Do you happen to know what law may dictate this? I'm actually disputing a doctor's bill that I received over a year after the date of service and wondered if that in and of itself was proper.
Thanks for your help!

Question about medical billing
Did you call the customer service number on the bill?
I received a bill a month or so ago from a trip to L&D 2 days before DS was born. I received the bill for his birth but, never that one so it hadn't been paid. I called to question it since it was sent so late and they told me it was sent in error and it had to be written off since it was over a year old.

Question about medical billing
Depends on insurance co. Most are 90 days but some are up to a year.
ETA that is for the insurance billing though. As far as patient billing I've had scenarios where we were fighting with the ins co for a year or more and they still denied the claim so I had to bill the patient after.
