Question about moving from crib to a bed
I think we are going to do this soon, for several reasons... DS was at a friend's house this weekend and seemed to really like playing and sitting on the bed.
I am, however, worried about DS being able to go through his drawers, climb on the furniture, get into things he shouldn't be able to (ie. Desitin )
I am thinking that we will get rid of the changing table altogether since he is fine with being changed on the floor and move his furniture around so the diaper supplies are on top of the tall dresser, which he can't get to.
How do you prevent them from getting into their dresser and closet and destroying their rooms?

Re: Question about moving from crib to a bed
Simple answer - you can't!
I try to put larger, easier to put back in things in the lower drawers, and stuff I don't want him to touch in the higher drawers.

Re: Question about moving from crib to a bed
When we first moved Kaydyn into a toddler bed we ended up having to get latches for each of the dresser drawers. She would either open them up and take out all the clothes. Or she would open them and use them as a ladder to climb up on her dresser.

Re: Question about moving from crib to a bed
So far so good, but I've kept all creams etc and the changing table out of the room. He's not really interested in the closet just yet, so I've been safe there. What I think helps, is that his toy chest is in there, so when he wants to "mess" with something, it's usually that so it serves as a good distraction.

Re: Question about moving from crib to a bed
Thanks ladies! M-lo, Luca has a LOT of toys and books in there so I am hoping it's the same deal with him. His closet doesn't have doors on it yet but they are sliding doors so that wouldn't make a difference and all of his clothes are up high so he can't reach them.
I am trying to convince DH to do this... I really think it will be great for him.

Re: Question about moving from crib to a bed
LB we put Spencer in a big boy bed about a month ago and although I feared the same thing I have to say that he really doesnt get out of bed until I go in and get him. A few times he's gotten out of bed and got his Thomas trains and gotten back in bed and played with them until I get him.
Good luck!!

this. i took out anything that could be dangerous or really messy. some things have slipped. one morning i woke up to her door completely colored up to as high as she could reach. and somehow she got blue paint on the blinds--which had to involve some climbing with how high it is. once she falls asleep, she stays asleep or calls for me. it's only during the falling asleep time that these incidents take place.

Re: Question about moving from crib to a bed
Honestly... she doesnt go near the "bad" stuff.
She once and a while will get a book or random doll and bring it in bed with her but she really just transitioned fine without trying to get into anything or get out of her room.
Before you go locking everything down, see how it goes. Do you have a video monitor? That was key.

Re: Question about moving from crib to a bed
LB please tell me how this goes...I thought DD was the only one over 2 to still be in a crib...she loves her crib and I don't want to switch her she's soooo routined I'm freaking that she'll freak and not want to sleep ever again...the one thing I can usually count on with her is go down to bed at night without a peep

Luca absolutely adores his crib, but at 2.5 I think it's time - especially since I have a feeling, with his personality, the longer we wait the tougher a transition it will be.
I will post my experience as soon as I convince DH to go along with it

This is Chels! she's sooooo routined that today when I asked her if she wanted a big girl bed she freaked...like she freaked the time I put a robe on her instead of a towel on her after her bath bc we always do a towel I'm so nervous that she's going to see the baby in the crib and want to stay in her crib forever

Jacen will be 3 in June and he's still in a crib. I was thinking another 3 years before i had to make the switch.
