Question about mucus plug - TMI

I'm 24 weeks and this morning I had a strong BH contraction (been having them for weeks, went twice to get checked and all was fine) and then went to the bathroom and noticed a giant glob of mucus in the toilet. Like, giant.

I'm waiting for my doctor to call back but I'm kind of nervous because I've had two or three more BH contractions since (all within an hour). Someone talk me off the ledge!

Re: Question about mucus plug - TMI

I hear your mucus plug can regenerate and that it's not really a sign of anything if you lose it, so not sure.

I lost my mucous plug and I didn't go into labor until a week later. I have also heard that it regenerates.

I don't want to scare you because I'm sure everything is fine, but please insist on being seen today. I had a similar situation at 21 weeks and I think it's best to be safe. Chat Icon

Yes that happened to me at 32 weeks. My water broke the next day and my DD was born the day after that. I don't mean to scare you, but I would take it seriously and get checked today. I hope everything is ok.

Ughhhh. My doctor was really dismissive on the phone. She insisted that was just residual discharge from an infection I had a few weeks ago.

I have my regularly scheduled appointment tomorrow night and she didn't seem to mind waiting until then to see me.

Ugh, I'm sorry your doctor was so dismissive. That would make me nervous. I actually lost my plug in the hospital (for preterm labor). I knew it was my plug. Even the nurses were dismissive that it was my plug. They discharged me anyway the next morning. Then my water broke at home that day. I was right. If you feel anything like contractions again today or tonight, I would head in to be checked.

What other symptoms did you have, if any? I had some BH contractions (not painful at all but noticeable tightening) this morning before and after I saw what I thought was my mucus plug but they have since stopped.

It sounds like everything is ok. Unless it was really bloody mucus, I wouldn't think anything if it - there's so much going on down there during pregnancy.

And if you're not feeling regular contractions, I'd just try to relax.

BH contraction don't really mean anything, most of the time, especially only 3 within an hour.

If you feel like something is wrong, go to L&D, or just tell your OB you're coming in, don't ask.

Well, I was already on magnesium sulfate for contractions. I wasn't having terribly painful contractions at that point or even before the meds. Just a dull backache and BH tightening. I did not have bloody mucus, just a giant blob regular mucus.

I hope you aren't going through what I went through, but I couldn't help but be nervous given what I experienced.

Tons of discharge during pregnancy is normal. Most women wear panty liners every day. And the mucus plug does regenerate.
