Re: Question about Private School/Public Schooling!
I think it depends on the areas and the schools. We moved to Pittsburgh, the schools here are ranked in the bottom 2% of the country. If we stay here, our children will without a doubt go to private school.
If I were to go back to LI, they would go to public school.

I think it completely depends on the child and the child's parents. If education is highly valued in a child's home, and parents are instilling a love of reading, respect for intellectual curiosity, and a healthy level of ambition, then the student will most likely be a success.
Some schools are better than others, due to budgets, class size, the academic culture of the school (do the teachers have autonomy, how much pressure is placed on tests, what are the course offerings, etc.)
As a college professor I've had loads of students from public, private and parochial schools and I cant say that one type of school consistently promotes better students. But I can say that when I have an excellent, motivated, disciplined student, it is almost always the case that this student came from a family where his/her learning was taken very seriously and encouraged from a young age.
Well said! I think the family and parents affect the child's quality of education far more than the school. does the school matter of coruse, but it's not everything. i work in one of the highest regarded distrcits on LI and i always have a few kids that just get NOTHING out of it because their home lives are disasterous.
also, in some ways certain schools educate you better in different ways. i.e. about your religion (Private school), or a better arts programs (public). All depends on what you're looking for.
