Question about siding
We are looking to get the siding redone on our home. We were told that we might have asbestos siding and have been told we can either just put the new siding right over it or tear it down before we put up the new siding. Does anyone have any previous experience with this?? I'm really not sure which option is best.

Re: Question about siding
We had asbestos shingle that we sided over. Asbestos shingle is not dangerous outside your home (if this is your concern); it has the potential to become dangerous when the fibers are inhaled after being damaged by sawing, cutting, etc. Even still, outside your home it is not considered a health risk. Keep it.

Question about siding
it is very expensive to remove because it needs to be done properly and disposed of in the right way. the cheapest and easiest option is to leave it in place. as someone else mentioned, it is only a hazard when it becomes damaged and the fibers become airborne. I would talk to a few different contractors about the pros and cons to siding over it.

Question about siding
It also depends on whether the new siding layered over what you already have will stand out above your window frames. The frames are supposed to extend beyond siding, not the other way around.
