question about sneakers
i admit i'm not the most fashion forward person, but you ladies are excellent at it!
the pictures of katie holmes and charlize Theron on the celebrity page got me wondering:
are sneakers ok to wear with anything nowadays? what are the rules to this? white sneakers only? a specific brand? socks or no socks?
If i could wear sneakers with my dresses that would make me the happiest girl ever!

question about sneakers
I never wear sneakers, just flats. Toms or Bobs would be as far I'd go. Sneakers with dresses make me think of the 80s.

Re: question about sneakers
The pics I saw looked like they were wearing them for comfort- Katie was heading into a subway. So if you have to run around the city, definitely. I am sure they changed their shoes once they arrived where they were going.
I wouldn't put sneakers of the kind they had on, with the outfits they had on.

Re: question about sneakers
I'm not really a sneaker girl - I just feel like they make my legs look stubby. I do, however, enjoy my sketchers Go walk. But I really only wear them with yoga pants, that type of thing. I'm more of a ballet flat or flip flop girl otherwise.

Re: question about sneakers
I'm not a big sneaker fan and don't love the way they look in the pics on the Celeb board. But, I do think with a summery dress, this style of sneaker could look cute:
slip on sneakers

i wouldn't normally either, but since i've completely ruined my feet, sneakers are really my only option. if it was now acceptable to do that.....
what about this kind of sneaker?

Re: question about sneakers
I think true sneakers are for working out only, similar to sweatpants. I do agree when you have a city commute "who cares" - so I would wear them in that case.
Otherwise flats or even slip on sketchers type "comfort shoes" work with shorts and sundresses.

For commuting many people wear sneakers and then change into shoes at work. They would not wear white sneakers with an outfit as a thing.

see i've never liked that look. you're outside, people can see your shoes. is it just assumed you're only wearing it for your commute?

In the middle of NYC yes. I mean when I see a woman in a business suit and flip flops or Uggs or sneakers I don't assume she is going to be rocking those in the meeting she is heading to.
NYC is all about commuting shoes. I can't walk a block in most of my heels that I wear in the office.

Yes the only way to understand this is if you have done a NYC commute day after day! No one cares whats on your feet and neither do you!

Re: question about sneakers
When I worked in the city I had a file drawer full of shoes at the office. I rarely had to carry them with me unless I was going to need them on a weekend or if I was not going to my office before court. I wore sneakers with my suits around the city. People would say it's tacky but the cat-callers never seemed to mind!!! Since 9-11 I really take the approach that there should be a good pair of comfortable shoes with a person wherever they go. My only rule is that they look clean and new, not that it really matters but that's my rule.

I think the sneaker commute predates 9/11. It was the blackout in the 70s!! I also was so thankful I had sneakers that day.

question about sneakers
I wear toms mostly and my cons. I do have my nikes that i wear when i work out or run. Buy have also worn them with jeans or shorts. Not often
I wear my toms for my commute and put on heels in my office. My commute entails a ton of face paced walking, a lot of stairs and running around subways. Its not doable in heels my feet would be tore up! In the winter i will wear my uggs.
I personally would not do what charlize and katie are doing. Just cause celebs are doing it doesnt mean its cute lol and katie did look like she was commuting.
I think the biggest mistake i see people make with sneakers is getting ones that are very big and bulky on a girl with a small frame. It just doesnt look good. You need a sleaker shoe. The nike free runs are my personal fave. They are a sleek tight fitting sneaker that actually look cute with shorts or skinny jeans.
