Question about taking care of an elderly parent in NY
In the state of NY does Medicaid pay you for taking care of a elderly parent?

Re: Question about taking care of an elderly parent in NY
I'm not sure about this. I believe that they pay either a relative or someone that a family member (or the person themselves) picks if they're eligible for it. It requires paperwork, applications, drs appointments, etc... and training for the person that will be the caregiver. My mom, uncle and aunt recently hired a geriatric lawyer to start this whole process because I take care of my grandmother. They're no where near finished with the process but I was told that I'll have to go for training and it's like $11 an hour or so I think. I'm not so concerned about the money as much as I am about the medical. I believe you have the option of paying medical thru them. Don't quote me on any of this--- I'm pretty sure but haven't read anything on it myself. We're going thru it w/ my grandma and my DHs grandfather now has someone taking care of him that is being paid thru them.
