Question about testing my blood sugar
Sorry I have so many questions about this but GD is new to me and confusing! So this morning I took my fasting blood sugar and I got 114 which seemed a little high so I took it again seconds later, same finger and got 92... How can I trust this thing if it's so inaccurate? I go back to the dietician on Wednesday for my follow up and will certainly bring it up to her, just wanted to see if anyone else had similar experiences with these monitors?

Re: Question about testing my blood sugar
Mine has a control solution to test accuracy.
I used to get different readings if I had to squeeze the blood out versus if I pricked it hard enough where I had enought blood. Usually when I had to sqeeze my finger to get enough blood, especially fastings, mine were 10-20 higher.

Question about testing my blood sugar
Wow, that's interesting... I'm going to set the needle to a deeper setting so I don't have to squeeze the blood and see what happens. Thanks for your advice! I also have that control solution but I had no idea what it was for, lol!

Question about testing my blood sugar
Make sure your hands are clean and don't have any soap residue either. If you use an alcohol wipe and prick before the finger is dry, you might get a different result. And...the meters aren't very accurate. If you get a high number, I would retest to verify as you did.

Re: Question about testing my blood sugar
I asked the same question. They told me it's accurate to a point. I was told take first blood no more than 5 minutes after you get up. Moving around can and does lower it.

I'm going to have to stop squeezing... I do this sometimes since I turned the setting lower.....
If I get a failed reading I usually retest another finger or hand.

Re: Question about testing my blood sugar
I have a ques to add….are we supposed to test 2 hours from the first bite of food or 2 hours from when you are mid way or finished? I think I have been doing it wrong this whole time, wtf! UGH!
PS I always stick and squeeze. I dont like it going too deep, ugh. And yes I get diff readings from different fingers. Usually 5-10 different and not major.

It's 2 hours from the first bite.
