Question about who does your lawn/landscaping?

Do you have a landscaper come and do it, or do you do it yourselves? DH and I are having a disagreement. We just moved into our new house last week, and DH wants to hire a landscaper to come once a week to cut the grass, trim, edge, etc. I think yeah, that would be great, but it also costs $$. We dont have a huge piece of property, so I dont understand why he can't do it himself? Just curious what other people do.

We have a landscaper. If we didn't, the house would be overtaken by the grass and weeds. DH is NOT a manual labor type guy.

We have a landscaper. However, if money ever becomes tight, this is the first thing I would get rid of.

Actually I mow our lawn & DH does the trim work....I actually enjoy doing it & can't see paying someone for something I am totally capable of doing...

We do our own. We have a little under an acre of property and DH does it all....but he also enjoys it.

Besides...we didn't want the extra cost either.

We have a landscaper, they do everything. Yes we are capable of doing it, but do not enjoy it and would rather spend that time doing family stuff together. We pay $87.95 a month, this includes everything including fertilizing, weeding, mowing, edging, sring/fall clean up and winterizing, etc, to us when you break it down weekly it's a good price!

Re: Question about who does your lawn/landscaping?

We'll prob do it together, I'm anal about landscaping - he'll edge, mow and rake, I'll trim and plant.

I can't imagine hiring a landscaper and/or cleaning lady.

I know it would free up time that we could spend with each other and with our future family but I cannot wrap my head around it.

Plus my mother would kill me. Her and my father had 4 kids, worked 2 jobs each and managed the house. She'd totally disown my spoiled lazy asss if I hired help.

Re: Question about who does your lawn/landscaping?

Our lawn and landscaping is included in our maintenance (we are in a gated community in FL), but if we didn't have that we'd definitely be doing it ourselves!

Re: Question about who does your lawn/landscaping?

We have an acre and had a lot of shrubs/hedges. (We've removed a lot of them over the past year.)

We did our own landscaping for the first few years, but ultimately decided to hire a landscaper b/c of the time it took to complete those projects. Plus my DH travels a lot, so it was easier to know that someone would come and take care of the yard and plow in the winter when he wasn't around.

In the grand scheme of things, the cost of labor for landscaping is the cheapest, so we're able to put our time into other projects where the labor would be much more costly.

Re: Question about who does your lawn/landscaping?

I have been begging DH for the last 2 years to hire a landscaper, I think he has finally caved - it's NOT just mowing the lawn - it's the edging and trimming and flower beds and weeding and fertilizing and, and, and - And if you don't spend enough time doing it each week, it starts to look like sh*t .......-

We dont' have the time to spend hours putzing around the yard every weekend - Also, we don't enjoy that - Some people really do, and for them it's a wast of money to hire a landscaper .......but us, it's a necessity !!

Ditto! he actual mowing only costs $25 a week, it's the fertilizer and seasonal clean up that add up.

Us too. DH hates to do stuff around the house.

I actually wouldn't mind doing it myself by I have terrible outdoor allergies and wouldn't be able to breathe for a few days if I did it.

Same here. We have had landscapers for 10 years. The DH TRIED to cut the grass when we first bought the house...and that's why we've had landscapers ever since.

Re: Question about who does your lawn/landscaping?

We've only been here a year and have a smallish plot so we do it ourselves.

Yes, our landscaping could look better. We have worked on a lot of big things this year to improve the way it looks. When working on planting beds, I'll be sure to set them up in a way that requires little maintenance. We're going to try things like not edging planting beds with fences or blocks, so we don't have to use the string trimmer as much.

That said, once all the leaves fall, we're going to hire a landscaper for a fall cleanup. We did it ourselves last year but it took a really long time and we think it's worth it this year to save the time and trouble.

Re: Question about who does your lawn/landscaping?

I did it myself when we first moved in for the first year, but then decided to get a landscaper. It took me a few hours to mow the front yeard, side of the house and back yard and then edge everything. Now for $26 a week it takes 3 guys 15 minutes to do everything. I sold my lawn mower and edger and now dont have to worry about doing it myself anymore.

Re: Question about who does your lawn/landscaping?

My DH does it- he likes it, though. He tends to not mind manual labor, and can't ever sit still and relax on weekend mornings, so he goes outside and does that while I sip coffee and laze around!Chat Icon

But, if he hated it, I'd rather hire someone to do it. Life is too short to spend every weekend doing something you hate (assuming it's financially feasible.) Now, since he feels so strongly about this, keep in mind you have a strong case for needing a cleaning service for the inside of your house, as well, should you want one!Chat Icon

We have a landscaper. I do all the weeding though. Neither of us loves mowing enough and it's worth it to us to pay someone.

My husband takes care of it. We tried letting a landscaper do it, but DH didn't like the way they did it. Chat Icon He's VERY particular about the lawn. It's his pride and joy. Chat Icon

Re: Question about who does your lawn/landscaping?

Because I am a SAHM, money is tighter so I do it myself. If I had more $$$ I would hire the landscaper again like when I was PG with my son. I did not do it. My lawn looked nicely cut all the time.

We are going to start using a service. Our property sucks- it's only a quarter acre but it's not level at all. Also, having leaves taken away in our town is complicated, and we both spend a lot of time commuting. The inside of the house is enough work, which we share.
