question for current or BTDT that moms of infants under 12 months
What kind of winter jacket did you buy them? DS is 4 months now, which means he will probably be wearing a winter jacket from 6-9 months. I really like the Gap Warmest jacket, and a few jackets I saw at Old Navy, but aren't they kind of bulky for getting them in and out of the carseat?

If it were a situation where we were going from the carseat to the stroller while he was in the infant carrier, I just used the Bundle Me. It made life so much easier for him and me both.
We had tried a winter jacket but it was just too bulky to strap in and he couldn't move his arms around at all. Now that he's in a regular carseat, we'll get a winter jacket but I'm not sure yet which one.

DS was born in Feb and we did a jacket maybe 2x. I have the bundle me for the car / stroller and will use a jacket only when we're outside for more than a run to the car (for the very reason you indicate in your OP).

I bought my son a jacket last year from the gap....I LOVED IT. it was the warmest jacket (I think this is the name) but it was not puffy at all. The ones on the website this year look puffy, but I have not seen them in person, so they may really not be.

DD is a December baby. From birth throughout the winter we only used the bundle me in the carseat.
This winter - I have NO idea what we are doing.

DD is a June baby. Last winter she was still in the infant seat, and we used the Bundle Me. I'd dress her like normal and then put her in the Bundle Me, and cover it with a thick blanket to/from the car since the Bundle Me doesn't cover the face and she'd knock the Bundle Me down more with her arms.
I will miss the Bundle Me this year

Re: question for current or BTDT that moms of infants under 12 months
I really just used a fleece North Face - I bought 3 for 50% off and they were great. We never spent that much time outside - I had a snowsuit if we did..
But for going in and out of the car, or even for some limited time outside, I used a hoody under a Northface, and a hat....
ETA - it was the least bulky and toasty warm!!!

I hardly used a coat for him last year - it was too bulky and he was still young so it was very hard to get it on/off him. I always warmed up the car and wrapped him in a blanket on the way out w/ a hat on.

we used the bundle me too...i bought him a jacket, but it was too hard to buckle him into the carseat with it... if you are using the infant carrier and you have a bundle me, you probably wont use the jacket much.

I put a fleece on DD and used the bundle me. On really cold days she wore a hat, mittens, fleece and I put an extra blanket in the bundle me.

Bundle me. It is dangerous to use a bulky jacket when your child is in the car seat. There should only be one layer of clothing between the car seat straps and your child.
So, we never used a winter coat at all.

Can I ask where you got DS's Northface? I've never seen one in baby sizes and would love to get one for DS. Thanks!

Re: question for current or BTDT that moms of infants under 12 months
DS was born in August so for the begining of the late fall and early winter season he wore a bunting. From January on he wore a winter coat. It was waterproof and had polarteck and fleece. I need to find another one like it this fall.

So what do you do when you are going in and out of the car in the freezing weather with a toddler? Do you take the jacket on/off before you put them in the car seat?

That is what you are supposed to do, yes.
I haven't done it yet, and I am not looking forward to it, but you warm the car and take the jacket off before you put them in the seat and cover them with a blanket.
My DH is an EMT and installs carseats and that is what he sticks too!
If the they wear a jacket in the seat, the straps adjust to the jacket and not to the kid, so if you got into a crash, they could be ejected!
